Yes! What Harry Manning used to call "S one-and-a-half"
My Fanalone-owning client, who used her car on numerous French stage rallies, has SII front brakes fitted. This was done at Evolution Engineering in London and was tricky because the straight SI steering arms are a bit in the way - and the calipers have to be modified (different location for one of the two hoses and also shimmed to centralise them) . At the time we wanted S1 1/2 hubs that would accept the SI ball joints but would also have curved arms and the correct dimensions to accept the SII brakes.
Curiously she much later bought a scrap S1 1/2 which does have the right parts, but five years too late!

This is more like it (albeit Fulvia TAV lists 7,8,9,&10 as escluso 1,6 HF).
Are steering arms (the bit that connects the box to the track rods) different lengths for S1 and S2?
I thought the only difference of track rods was the threading of the ends with the taper connection being the same??

Yep, you're right - idler box it is!
Re: gemmer steering box HF?
No the track rods are completely different: the S1s are things of beauty with the tapered collars etc. instead of the primitive clamp and split end on the S2s
However the S2 ball joints are I think bigger and better!

I know the threaded ends are different and l like the S1 style, but for ease of adjustment the S2 wins hands down.
I have some other info on steering boxes GM 7 & 9 - lhd/rdh have ball bearings, and 8 and 10 -lhd/rdh have roller bearings).
No mention of chassis number relation.
Who knows which came first the chicken or the egg (ball or roller)?

That's very interesting; perhaps the roller bearing examples actually manage to leak less oil or is this once again the triumph of hope over experience?
I once did some research and found that there is a company in Argentina that makes parts and indeed complete steering boxes which Morgan owners buy as I remember. I asked if they could supply bits for 1600 steering boxes which as most people know give trouble whilst the 1300 ones generally don't. This would have involved dismantling a 1600 steering box and sending its bits to them which inevitably didn't happen!

Re: gemmer steering box HF?
When A friend who owned several RHD Fanalone's asked this question some years ago, I was sent this reply from Piero Vanzetti:
"Fulvia 818.000 and 818.001 share the same box of Flavia 815.00 and 815.01:
LA7 for LHD, LA9 for RHD
Other Fulvias use the same steering box: LA8 for LHD and LA10 for RHD
LA8 has 4,2 turns lock to lock.
Fanalone and Fanalino (818.740) share the same steering box: LA5 for LHD
which has 3.25 turns lock to lock. LA5 is very rare.
Some Fanalone LHD may have ZF steering box as described in table 47A of S1
spares manual. This steering box is shared with Flavia 819.200.
RHD Fanalone up to chassis 1274 have LA9 steering box (4.2 turns l.t.l.).
RHD Fanalone after 1275 have the RHD version of the LA5 but, as it is
extremely rare, I think that the body of the steering box is the one of a
LA10 especially milled to take Fanalone worm and roller.
To be very precise, the LAx mark is the one on the box and does not identify
the whole box, but simply the bottom part of the aluminium alloy body (part
n 32 TAV #47 S1 spares catalogue). "
