1600 HF Timing Chain Tensioner

Does anyone know what the purpose of the corrugated bush in the arm of the 1600Hf tensioner is? This bush is not present in the 100 tensioners?

what do you mean with "corrugated bush"

If you mean the grooves I would like to say reduce friction and to catch oil
for chain lubrication.

Hi Andreas, if you remove the arm (Not the shoe) from the main mechanism by removing the circlip, the arm slides off the pin and inside is a corrugated bush. This is what I am talking about

Yip that's the little bugger! I also notice that all the 1600 tensioners I have stripped (well ony 2 so far) have a lot of play on the shaft between the bracket of the shoe. I have discovered that by using a 1300 arm (without that 'orrible little thing) that there is no or extremely little play. So I think that's the route I'm going to take.

Looks like the remnants of a needle roller bearing.

Huib do you know of this as a problem?

It looks a bit like that I grant, but it isn't. It is just a piece of corrugated stainles steel that is bent round the pin and the arm is pushed over the top. When new I imagine it has just enough spring in it to offer some sort of control to the orientation of the tensioner. But because it is very thin (and not very accurate) it distorts, and because it only wears at the point it touches the bore in the tensioner arm (ie very locally) they are a very loose fit. Also the pin is not hardened so they wear as well. The tensioner on mine rattled around like a bean in a tin. I haven't thought about how to do it yet, but the 1300 route is a good option (thanks Phil) - as is making a new pin up and getting it hardened.

It's all a bit crude, as I think Phil can attest.
