Hi Everyone,
Needing some advice on on a S2 gearbox.
Changing the oil I came across an issue. The differential side oil is black with a little sludge. I guess this is expected considering the gearbox hasn't run in a long time. Some fine metal shards stuck to the drain plug magnet. The gearbox side oil is also black and with thick sludge. Stuck on the drain plug magnet is what seems to be pices of a collapsed bearing - please see photos.
I don't have experience when it comes to gearboxes and need some advice from the experts where these metal fragments could have originated from and what the best course of action is.
Using the shifting stick I am able to shift into all gears without any issue.
Any advice appreciated.

Re: S2 Gearbox Woes...
I bet it is the cage of one of the ball bearings.
I have an S 2 gearbox with overhauled. All new bearings but the case is slightly bent. We could transfer all internals.

Re: S2 Gearbox Woes...
Thanks for the offer Huib. I am based in South Africa so shipping a gearbox will most probably not be feasible....
I've been busy all this time removing rust and replacing panels on my Fulvia restoration but finally got around to attend to the gearbox again.
On removing the gearbox rear cover it was obvious which bearing is the problem.....and indeed the bearing cage as Huib suspected.
Now to find a replacement (non Chinese) Input main shaft / main drive shaft rear bearing and see how we tackle this. I assume a new gasket set will be in order and new oil seals all round?
Whilst I have the gearbox open what else would be maintenance checks on a 54 year old gearbox? I am following this article - https://www.casalancia.nl/en/gearbox which is great but overall there doesn't seem to be much detail on the internet when it comes to Fulvia gearboxes.
Any advice appreciated.
