Re: Flavia Vignale Convertible. Where to get parts/manuals

Hi Stuart. Welcome to the Flavia restoration game. I have recently completed an1800 Coupe in New Zealand where there are also very few of these cars. You are nearer to the main sources for parts though so it should be easier. I reconstructed most of the trim in my car using new backing boards and sa...

Re: Cylinder head gasket water leaks

Hi Roger I found a similar leak on the top side of the head as indicated in your picture. It was not as extensive but worrying nonetheless. I ran the engine for a hundred KMs or so and watched the leak which did not get any worse. I then re-tourqued the heads and the leak was banished forever. I gue...

Re: Flavia wheel bearings

I have not checked the forum for a while and have just seen your message. I am not sure if my cure will work with bearings that have existing wear and it may be better to take your mechanic's advice and replace them. The bearings I bought new for my Flavia were fine except they had too much lateral ...

Re: Removal & reassembly of cylinder liners

Sorry I have just caught up with this thread as I have been obsessed about gearbox bearings. I had my engine block treated much the same way. The liners were honed in situ and the protrusion carefully measured afterwards, The block is an open deck design and the liners are usually firmly stuck in pl...

Re: Flavia Gearbox bearings

Hi Huib. Thanks for the advice. I found the spreadsheet useful for updating the standard bearings to recent manufacturers numbers but it only had fields for the 819 series which is a very different unit to the split case four speed 815 unit. I too am learning as I go and I will provide a list of bea...

Re: Flavia Gearbox bearings

I am using a series 1 Flavia 1500 saloon gearbox for donor parts for my 1800 Coupe gearbox build and have stripped it down to extract the bearings. I am assuming the 1800 Coupe gearbox is close in design to the earlier unit but I only have parts books for the 815 saloon and the 819 series saloon and...

Re: Flavia Gearbox bearings

Hi Lucas

I do not have the CD so the bearings page would be very welcome. My address is michael@design.otago.ac.nz.

Many thanks,

Michael

Flavia Gearbox bearings

The Flavia 1800 Coupe's gearbox has become progressively noisier over the past couple of weeks and I am thinking about some work. I note synchro rings and a couple of special bearings for sale in various dealer's listings but does anyone know about the availability of gearbox bearings generally? Doe...

Re: Oil coolers

I may be able to find you a used oil cooler. I had two with my car but will need to check as I moved some spare parts on to a friend in Christchurch. Is yours leaking or missing altogether? I had the better of my two recored and have had no problems with it. A radiator specialist will do it. All bes...

Re: Flavia wheel bearings

I have driven another 500 kms on the modified wheel bearings and no sign of trouble yet. I am seeing these bearings for sale everywhere now at a price of 160EUR. My advice is to check them for lateral movement before you fit them and be prepared for some machining costs unless you are lucky enough t...
