Beta Coupe Sunroof

Unread post by Dan Chiaradonna »

I have begun rebuilding the factory sunroof on my 76 Beta Coupe. Most of the pads, arms, handle, etc are destroyed. Does anyone know if new parts are available or if someone is dismantling a car with good sunroof bits? Thanks Dan

If my memory serves me I think the roof was made by a company call Aztec, but I may be wrong I'm not sure if new parts are available. The plastic cams that jacked the roof panel into position as the roof closed were favorites to disintegrate. There are probably a few Betas beyond economic repair that may yield parts for the roof but I must admit that the mechanism was a bit fragile, even when it was new.

Keith, it looks like the majority of the plastic in the cam system has disintegrated. I'm looking into adapting an old Volkswagen Rabbit system to the roof. I'll keep you guys posted. thanks! Dan

Hi Dan
You may be ok the Volkswagen probably has a Golde roof which has a similar mechanism to the Aztec roof (I think the italian roof is a copy of the Golde) I don't know what the plastic is that they used but mine disintegrated befor the car was more than 4 years old, I copied the bits & machined them from Nylon, a pig of a job but at least they lasted, actually it was Nylatron a moly impregnated nylon self lubricating & UV stable.

Hi Dan & Keith,
I've got the same problem as Dan, I'm driving my 1983 Trevi VX with a broom-stick between roof and floor. So I'm interested in your progressions. I found a roof from a 1984 HPE, but its construction was quite different than the Trevi's.
Keith, perhaps there are more than one manufacturers besides Aztec (which I cannot find on internet)?
Best regards.

I had trouble getting parts for the HPE/Coupe sunroof over 10 years ago from a dealer, they were on back order for about 6 months. I must admit that my Trevi roof gave no trouble so I never looked at it closely. It is possible that it is supplied by a different manufacturer.
It would be worth looking at a VW sunroof as the work in a similar way They were made by Golde which I think is a German company. Maybe parts could be adapted?
I'm sure that the Lancia roof was Aztec but that is a name from my memory I will look in my papers & books to see if the name is mentioned or perhaps someone else may know.

Regards
Dan

I got the sunroof parts and i'm happy! Ordered them from Felix at http://www.lancia.co.za/. The parts are first quality, and look great. I'll be installing them once i have finished repainting the car. Felix has the pads, handles and is remaking the bands with proper plastic fittings. Highly recommended pieces. thanks Felix!! Dan

A lot of the parts from the 1980 lancia beta coupe sunroof i own came from vauxhall as the opel manta had the same sunroof but it was larger however the parts are the same. Has ne 1 got a good 1600cc engine for sale mine has gone up the swannie, otherwise the car will b scrapped and it has no rust and it has never been welded!
