BETA LIGHT CONVERSION
BETA LIGHT CONVERSION
Following on from my comments on a sealed beam conversion for a Beta coupe. This is what we did. Use the original carrier reflector shell as the mount for the sealed beams. Cut three spacers in the shell to take the sealed beam spiggots. Now is the best time to treat the reflector shell for rust. The last task is to fit the stainless steel surround. This is very tight fit and you have to make some small detents on the outside to take the small lugs on the beam lens. Refit the sealed beam unit onto the original adjuster lugs. All that remains to be done is to adjust the headlights. They might be so powerful as the originals but they should last the length of the car and they look the same. My father and I did this in 1986 to date we have not had to replace any of the sealed beam units I just hope we can source some if we do. At present I'm looking at a way of putting a manual overide switch as a back up to the radiator thermal switch. I plan to use one of the spare rocker switches on the dash board. Working with a local auto electrical company we will using a relay.A faulty thermal switch is the quickest way to cook a Beta engine especially if you have not heard the radiator fan cutting in. So next time I get stuck in heavy traffic on a hot day it will be great just to flick that switch. Watch this space
