Electronic distributor troubles

I have just fitted an electronic distributor to my Fulvia 1.3s. It is one where the points have been replaced by an electronic pick-up, but the mechanical advance and retard is still in place. The car idles and runs beautifully up to 3000 rpm, but will not rev above that. We have replaced the coil with the correct one, replaced plugs, replaced leads. Does anyone have any suggestions?
