front suspension leaf spring

Unread post by georges »

Hi everybody; last month I left for "renovation"a set of 3 leaf-springs of Fulvia suspension, in a specialised workshop (I had a spare set in addition of those on my complete Fulvia fitted with non-renewed springs)
Now I changed the old rear springs on the car, without any problem
my question is about the front one : is it specially difficult to dismount and replace ? will I need to come with a rugby team ?
Thank you for any experience or advice
Georges

Hi Georges,
The rugby team might not be a bad idea. I suugest you head down to Toulon and recruit the help of some sturdy South African boys, like Victor Matfield and Laurence Sephaka.

Jokes aside, It does take a bit of expertise and caution! I'm sure Huib can point you in the right direction regarding some documentation on how this is achieved.

A few monthes ago, the engine was taken off , I should have worked on the spring at this time..
My Fulvia is happi with its 2 renewed rear springs; we will wait as long as necessary before trying to work on the front. Thank you for advice and humour
Have fun with Lancia
Next week, you will see some picts of the local club (and my Fulvia among them) on www//vieillesautos24.fr

Georges.

series 1 or series 2/3 Fulvia? Makes a difference for working on the spring.

The difference between the series is the construction of the bumpstop. Series 1 cars have it actuating on the lower A-arm and hence have a simple U-beam were the spring houses in. Late series 1 13S coupés, fanalones and all series 2 cars have the bumpstop above the upper A-arm and the tampon itself is connected to the extremity of the U-meam making it wider and odd shaped. The loading of the spring, in order to remove it, is more difficult with series 2 cars as the clearance around the beam and the leaf is more limited.

Rather dangerous job if you don't have the tools. If you want to risk a hand or arm and fool around with pot cricks or wooden poles it is best to have the engine in the car. And stack another engine on top of it.

I designed and built some special tools which work equally well on S1 and S2 cars and are strong anough to handle the 11 leave springs of a Flavia.
