Fulvia Cylinder gaskets

Unread post by lanciagarage »

Can anyone tell me why the apertures in the Fulvia cylinder head gaskets do not line up correctly with the water channels in the head. My only thought is that it is to reduce water flow, but then why didn't they redesign the head?

It is indeed to control and balance water flow.

Why they did not redesign the head, I don't know. Might have something to do with mould design.

very easy i would say. The head must have a structure for casting and stability.

And it ´s much easier and cheaper to adapt the gasket to the needed waterflow.

So they changed the gaskets with the 1200. engine.? But later engines should not run colder than ealier ones..?!

I had a 1100 engine with 818.130 cylinder block and 818.100 cylinder head with a right up fitting gasket. So there are these gaskets...

818.130 is the origine number of the first 1216 cc engine, 76 mm. bore.
So I doubt it was a 1100 version.
Cylinder block and head bear the origine numbers of the cast product, so the 818.100 head can be machined for the 1216 and the 1100, but originates from the 1100 (2C)

Shure it was no 1100 cc engine, bore/stroke was 77x67 mm, so the engine had 1250 cc. But doesn´t matter, the head gasket fits perfectly, and that was the surprise for me. So there are these gaskets, but from which engine..?

Thankseveryone, now a 2nd question. Does anyone know what the minimum thickness of the cylinder head should be. Need to make sure I am not going to use one that has been overskimmed
