Another Fulvia available in the US - this time Santa Rosa CA

Unread post by Chasm61 »

I'm surprised that the nice green Fulvia 1.3 that drew so much comment below appears not to have drawn a single bid on eBay last week. But now there is another available on eBay, this time a '67 Zagato Sport. See #260219827830, a pretty yellow with the 5.5" Flavia 2000 HF version of the 6" Fulvia Cromodoras. (I still wish I could find a set of those wheels for my car, but that's just not likely.)

He already has 1 bidder at $9000, and appears to have cleared the seller's reserve.
Let's see where this one ends up.

It's the 3rd from last aluminum Fulvia Sport.

818.332.1472 is the chassis number which means it is an all alloy Sport but the alloy Sports were built up to chassis 1911 (the daytona Competizione) so there were still several hundred alloy Sports being built after this one. Nontheless it looks like a very good basis for a light resto. Even in Italy the alloy bodied Sports are becoming rare. I find the US front interesting. A bit like the Flavia Sport with its separate headlights.

It's the 3rd from last alu Fulvia Sport.

it's always amazing to me that so many pertinent, historical facts of many "well-known & honest Fulvias" are so well documented ... thanx to "you all (pronounced "Ya'lll" ) who do such things".

a fat, low, wicked Zagato 1,6 Coupé - Gruppo 4 , short-gears; Technic from "Claudio Magnioli"
(whoever that is ; I assume someone "important"; I'll maybe google it ) is lisited as being "in good condition 2; 07/1971; 65.000 km ;: 113/154 (kW/PS) Silber Metallic in www.autoscout.de - Euro 17,500. Might be a good price ?
I, who'd never even consider owning such a Wild-Thing, wouldn't go to look without a team of
Super-Fulvia-Experts........
I, who've never driven a Fulvia, other than my own weak little Z 1.3S, can only imagine that driving this
"La Monster" must be a real "da dada dadada "Thrilla" !

Ferrari Drivers beware !

Its only about 1 hour "up in the hills", where us "flat-landers" seldom venture........I used to live up there myself, so I can report it isn't like travelling to the High-Andes (where I have not lived)..

It is, however... somewhat impossible to get to in Summer ... due to flat-lander-tourists.
& semi-impossible to get to in winter ... ice, snow & fog... beautiful in all seasons.

Worth a Visit at any time. Home to God's own Playground - the famous "Rock-Forest".

!f anybody out there in 'Fulvia Land' is absolutly interested...let me know & I'll head-up for an informal look

Very nice looking. I'm not very partial to the Zagato Fulvia though myself. Just a matter of personal taste I guess, but I prefer the coupe to the sport. I do really like the Zagato treatment of the Alfa Romeo Junior (GTV), but the Fulvia never really turned the heat up for me.

There is a car on www.mobile.de/ right now though that I am truly lusting after - a red 1970 1.6 Lusso coupe in Friedrichstahl. If the "almighty dollar" wasn't so week against the Euro right now, 17,500 Euro would seem quite reasonable to my lustful eyes, if it's in good condition.

Oh well, just have to keep playing with my little 1.3s I guess. I do enjoy it, but have come to consider it a first step into Fulvia-dom. I'm learning what I like, what I need to look for and be wary of. I'm also learning what it takes to care for the car and how it likes to be driven, etc. Maybe there's a Lusso out there for me some day... :)

Hmm, that €17,500 Lusso looks almost exactly like mine. That's a very encouraging price direction for an existing owner, and there are two more on the site for even more money. Makes mine seem a bargain although it has cost in total about 220 per cent of the purchase price to date...

AKA Gamma ai Goat

I own a Fulvia Z & still, I partially agree with your comment about the " Z Alfa va. Z Lancia" styling...

The Alfa is a superb design, from any angle. The Zagato boys were not on uppers when they designed its exterior style ... just never look inside....it is just horrible! ....lt looks like "1950s badly-made-in-hong-kong- throw-away-plastic-warped-toy-disaster (not that most newer-design plastic toys look better).
... + the stories of - lack of any - quality build when assembled at Alfa in the 70...
....+ the absurdly high-prices of the Alfa Z !
.... all make my heart warm to my "affordable Fulvia Z", which seems to have been assembled or restored or both, with a great deal of care; orgetting the plastic - since discarded - original steering-wheel.

From certain angles the Fulvia Z is just a delight........plus it looks great, dare I say "bad, cool, hip ? - OK, its the beatnik-boy-racer in me ! - as a fat, low, Gp 4 hot-rod.
They look "honest" that way too, since Fulvia Zs were actually built with this look. I have no idea if any
Alfa Z ever were built to such extremes......
From some angles a Fulvia Z just looks "strange", which is not necessarily bad ... many Zagato look "strange" ... and still, someone ordered them - all those years ago. Some of us have even bought them-
in recent years... which may make us strange too ... which is not necessarily bad !!!

When I get in my Z (carfully folding my skinny self in sections, due to hi-walled sport-seats) I do not cringe, as I would if I had to look at the Alfa Z dash each time I banged my head getting in.

I checked the Fulvia listed on Mobile.de today ...... there is certainly no shortage of them coming up from the sunny south ... the prices seem to be 2x more than a few years ago ... but doesn't anyone really pay any of these prices ? My guess is .... no ! the same cars are listed again & again.

1 car below the 1.6 Lusso Coupe for Euro 17+ is a strange looking Z; with USA slightly-crashworthy bumperetted-overriders ... which I've never seen on a Euro car before.

William,

This is nothing to do with the Fulvias, but I don't have your e-mail. E-mail me (click on name) when you get a chance; I have a little info on your Superjolly.

I was never too wild about the Fulvia Sport until I owned one. Viewed from the side, the hood/bonnet area seems too short for the rest of the car. But viewed from the full front or full rear, it's terrific. And Johnny's Got a Gamma Goat is right about the "behind the wheel" experience. You have a shapely charismatic hood/bonnet to look out over. The coupe is totally lacking in that area. And the A-pillars are rakish whereas the coupe ones seem like you are in an old Datsun sedan. Which is not to knock the coupe, a totally lovely car. The Sport also has the best seats I've encountered in a 60s car--for my body shape anyway.

And sitting in traffic you can always confuse the guy behind you by playing with the electric hatch vent...
