New Fulvia on eBay in the US - South Carolina

Unread post by Chasm61 »

FYI - A reasonably nice looking 1965 Fulvia coupe is now on eBay... 200204450849.

It's listed as a 1965, which I thought had the 1.2 liter engine, so this 1.3 with Del'Orto carbs must be a replacement unit. Is that correct? It's also missing the airbox and he's mounted the 14x6 Cromodoro wheels from the later HFs on the car.

All in all, looks pretty nice, and I'm watching closely to see what it sells for. He's asking $8500 to start, and since I now have about $10k into my restoration you can understand my interest! :-)

Nice looking car but as you say its got a non original engine, carbs, wheels, steering wheel and other small bits and peices. Pity in my opinion to change the driving characteristics of what is a sweet car in original format.

The car is definetely not 1965. It is from 1967 or later. So it probably is an original Rallye 1.3. My favourite model. However as Kim says there is some work to be done to bring it back into original condition. The Dellorto's are an advantage if they are the DHLB35's. Well worth having. If the body is solid, the cost for origineel steel wheels, new 145R14 tyres, steering wheel, air filter box, wing mirror and some other things is bearable.

Just to re-iterate what Huib has said. Far too many people get hung up on the details. If you are contemplating running an old car it is the condition of the bodyshell that is paramount. Unless the car is a real rarity, the cost of getting hold of the neccessary bits will far out-weigh the cost of putting a bodushell right - and of course you can enjoy the car in the meantime, even if it takes a while to find them.

It is indeed a 1965. It’s chassis 818.130.001395--the earliest Coupe chassis number I know of in the US, although I show it as having a 1.3S engine (obviously added sometime later). It’s being sold by an American Lancia Club member.

The body is definetely 1967 or later. Earlier coupes did not have the long stalk for the hood. They had a small spring loaded stalk on the other side at about halfway. On all earlier coupes I have seen the hood was changed for one with the long stalk but it would then still not have the thingy on the inner wheel arch where you put the stalk. Also that front part of the inner wheel arch is flat on the earlier bodies. On the later ones there is profile like on this one. The chassis number is either fake or the whole front section has been replaced.
I bet the number is fake as it also has the rallye 1.3 script on the rear.

Or the chassis number was transcribed wrong in the information I've been working from.

I've sent the owner an e-mail to ask if it's really 818.330, which would make more sense given the details you mention. (BTW, if it does turn out to be 818.330, it would be the lowest 1.3 chassis number I have in the US.)

Well, let us know. There are some more differences between the earlier and the later S1 coupes. If necessary I can give them.

Yeah, the VIN does not match the visible evidence. Not that Huib needs any reinforcement but, yes, I noticed the later doors. The early cars had fixed quarter windows and these are the opening kind. Notice there have been no bids. That's a wise response. The engine number this guy is giving is merely the cylinder head casting number. I remember being fooled by that too when I got my first Fulvia. The seller needs to look in the proper place for the engine number, which should be extra easy with those Dellortos lacking the original-style airbox.

I think we can assume this is a Euro-spec car given the kmh instruments, the lack of the added turn signals on the front bumper and the taillight lenses. And that might be the reason for the VIN switch. There was a time when it was not permissible to sell post-1967 Lancias in the USA even as secondhand cars. Personally, I would never object to a VIN switch for that reason. It's certainly a nice-looking car.
