current status of IGNITOR installation

Unread post by Katsura »

Dear all,

A couple of months ago, I posted the topic about point-less kit, IGNITOR. I bought the kit and installed it, and found something wrong so far. Therefore I guess it is better that I shoud post again about current status and share infromation.

Ignitor kit for Marelli S105C destributor is MR-LS2. In the package of the product, I found these, module, plate, and some short parts. This type of Ignitor is lobe-sensor module. It does not use magnetic collar. It seemed a slight different product than other Ignitor kit, I guess.

Of course, the plate and module were fixed without modification, it was a bolt-on kit. The module should fixed 0.2-0.3 mm interspace between cam of destributor and itself. After attached the destributor with Ignitor, I connected red lead wire to + of coil and black one to - of coil. That's it!

Then I started the engine and checked the ignition timing. The engine ran well so far around idle or below or below 2000rpm. But when I gave gas to engine, mis-fired and never ran above 4000rpm. Moreover I felt very low power and couldn't run using 3rd gear or more.

Something is wrong. So I asked the shop to check what is wrong. He analyzed my IGNITOR and found the problem. The position of holes for attachment of the IGNITOR on the distributor were wrong! He made new holes. He also told me it was probably because of design error or mis-packaging.

Anyway, I will try to install it again. I will let you know what will happen next time.

I have got an email from one Fulvista in Italy who installed IGNITOR MR-LS2 on his Fulvia. According his email, everything went well withour any modification. The most important thing seems just put the IGNITOR instead of point, do not change the ignition timing, do not remove the destributor. Then it seems you can start your engine smoothly and runs good so far.

I will try to use original position and mofidied position. It will be interesting test???

Hi Katsura and all the rest of the forum,
After one week of hard work, without any spare time to have a look to the Fulvia I could do some work and testing in the weekend.
I can confirm that it starts at first turnkey and goes smooth and precise as a swiss precision watch, just there is a strange "wall" while accellerating from 4.6k to 5.1k rpm, then it's all right. Contrary to what I told previously to Katsura, it's working in the same way with the standard Marelli coil (which meant trouble in smooth going with the points) or with the PerTronix Flamethrower I which puts out around 40k Volts. I'm wondering if a 60-65k volts competition coil (like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pertroni ... enameZWDVW) could give any better performance without making trouble... anyway WHn you install the Ignitor, remove the points and condenser WITHOUT touching the distributor, and simply install the plate. then check that the Ignitor face goes close to the distributor cam (0.1 mm at the closest point) and close every screw tightly. Then use it for a while ( about 20 km) and let everything cool down. then open againg everything and close again the screws. For me it works perfectly...

Dear Katsura,

today i found your topic about problems with the Ignitor Kit.

I bought this Kit too and have the same problems with it!

Could you fix the problem in the meantime?

Regards

Mirko
