Clutch release/thrust bearing

Unread post by ZanettiZA »

Does anyone know the part number, either SKF or FAG, for a S2 Coupe clutch thrust bearing? My local bearing supplier is unable to find a replacement.

Thanks!

It is a Fulvia special. You may have a version where you can pry open the housing. Inside is a standard bearing.

Yes I have opened the housing and taken the bearing out but they people at the bearing supplier weren't very helpful so I thought if I had a part number it would make things easier.

It is a long time ago I opened one. I am 100% sure though I managed to get a standard FAG or SKF bearing from the bearing shop. Perhaps the replacement one did only have same diameters but slightly different height. Did you check that?

You can check the on line catalog of skf.com. It is a single row deep groove ball bearing.

Yesterday (after checking on Viva Lancia - thanks Huib!) I took my release bearing apart and went down to the local bearing shop and picked up one off the shelf.

dimensions were:
OD: 68 mm
ID: 40mm
W: 15 mm

Part number was 6008 2Z
Manufacturer: NKE

Cost £5

This was for a Fanalone gearbox but I think they are the same

Happy new year
Neil

Hi Huib and Neil,

Thanks for the replies, the bearing I have here is a bit smaller, 62,36,14, I phoned another bearing supplier this morning, they said they had it, arranged for someone to collect it for me and guess what... It's not the same, it has an ID of 35 which I guess could work but the it does not have the protrusion that actually makes contact with the pressure plate!

I've attached 2 pics of them, the new one obviously in the packaging to be returned Monday first thing!

The protrusion is not a protrusion. It's an insert - you push it out of the old bearing and put it in the new bearing.

Put a bit of freeze spray around it and drift it out. Warm the new bearing in front of a heater and pop the insert into a fridge for 1/2 hr then press it in using a vice.

Does that mean that the new bearing also has this insert which needs to be removed? or should I be getting a bearing which has an ID less than the insert?

As the both bearings look identical except for the fact that the new bearing doesn't have a protruding "insert" but rather a level "insert". Both have almost identical ID's.

Sorry... to make it simpler, the insert you are referring to is actually part of the bearing and doesn't look like it could/should be removed!?

I don't see any inserts on the new bearing - all I see is an inner and outer race with a metal seal for the ball bearings.

I don't have a photo of mine in bits but all I did was turn the bearing over and knock the insert out. If your insert is actually an integral part of the bearing case then it is of a type I have never seen before and I can't help. Have you got a photo from the back?

Neil, I've attached 3 pics, top and bottom of current bearing and one pic of the "new" bearing which looks identical from both top and bottom, I might just be imagining this so your help is really appreciated!
