gearbox dropping out of gear

Unread post by william »

Hello, Does anyone has experience on resolving the problem I have with my Fulvia 4-speed gearbox were the lever fals down from first after dropping the clutch? As soon as the power is fed to the box the lever has the tendency to fall out of first. I have to hold the lever til the car actually rolls.

What I have seen specifically on first gear which causes dropping out of gear are:
1. bad needle bearing for the 1st gear wheel on the main shaft
2. missing / bad teeth

There's a detente spring/ball system on the 5-speed box that is relatively easy to adjust/restore without removing g/box.
Not sure if the 4-spd has similar accessibility, but I bet it does.
