The Laing Story - Hope the pics work

Unread post by Phil Laing »

The Lancia “thing" all started in November 2005 when I purchased a Fulvia series 2 for my son Sheldon. A wonderful little car with a little bit of rust soon turned into a rust bucket and blew its head gasket (twice).A few months later we met Gabby, an 80 year old “Lancisti" with many years of experience. He currently owned 2 ½ Fulvias, and at one stage owned seven of them. He was very complimentary about our Fulvia, assuring us that we had been duped and had bought a lemon!

Any way, a few head rebuilds later and some frustration regarding the badly rusting body, inspired us (Gabby included, as he had started rebuilding the ½ Fulvia, a series 1) to look for a donor car. We found this in the form of 1969 series 1 1.3 rallye. This purchase turned out to be real bargain, as hen we turned up to tow it away, the seller informed us that the sale included all his spares. This included an aluminium, bonnet, boot and door, a new exhaust, new carello lights, a rebuilt engine etc. etc.

When we got the car home we realised that al of the parts we needed were taken care of by the “spares" purchased and decided that this car was probably in better condition than our series 2 and that we should rebuild it.

This process, a project for both me and my son, started in March this year.

So here are a few for those who are interested, curious or sympathetic.

We started by stripping and cleaning the subframe. This is me, very dirty and already losing my hair with all the work

More pics to follow in a few weeks time when the rear suspension is complete and we start tackling the body

I put the code through the HTML editor and got them to work.
You used the wrong keys for the quotes before and after the url.

It is not entirely clear on the picture but it looks like the track rod on the S1 is the wrong way around.

The central track rod should bend away from the gearbox linkage.

Could indeed be the light. Good work so far and a bit more to go.
