We are just about to start to modify a 1216 motor to a period Group 3 HF specification and we are trying to produce 100+BHP and would like to know waht carbs were used in the late sixties.
We have standard Solexes available as a set of 35DHLB carbs which we know are not period but will work.
I have seen some posts discussing 32DCOF carbs but these seem to have a problem that chokes are fixed.
I have also seen a post dated around 3 years ago that discussed 34DCOF (?) which I can find no trace of existing.
I have a couple of good sets of 40DCOE18's also available and these are certainly period as they were fitted to the originalLotus Elite, Lotus Cortinas and early Elans.
I realise I will need to change the manifold but would 40DCOEs ever have been fitted to a 1.2HF?
Carbs for 1.2HF
Re: Carbs for 1.2HF
According to the parts catalogue, the standard carbs for the 1.2HF were Weber 32 DOL with a 28mm venturi. According to Altorio, these were subsequently increased to Weber 34 DOL or Solex 35PHH for competition purposes.
There's no indication that Weber 40DCOEs were officially fitted, and I don't believe they were ever homologated for the 1.2HF. It wouldn't surprise me if someone tried fitting them at one ime or another, but they weren't homologated they wouldn't have been legal for Gp. 3.

Re: Carbs for 1.2HF
Thanks,
Homologation Form 534 shows that the car was homologated in Group 3 with 34DOL carbs and indeed 28mm chokes were used.
Form 1492 which is for a 1.3HF in Group 2 shows Solex 35PHH or 35DOL and 36DOL were homologated.
Where on earth am I going to find 34,35 or 36 DOL carbs?
Help!!!!! please.

Re: Carbs for 1.2HF
Solex 35PHH should not be a problem.
This are the normal production carb´of 1,3 l engine.

Re: Carbs for 1.2HF
Like the 1300HFS which was factory fitted with DDHF40's with 34mm venturi so was the 1216HF with 77mm bore (making 1248cc) factory fitted with the same DDHF40 carbs. The problem being that also these carbs are not available. This 1200HFS was not available to the public compaired to two years later the 1300HFS which was. It seems that if you have to stick to the group 3 regulations only the Solex 35 with 31mm venturi can be used as biggest period option. I doubt it it you can make more than 100Hp with them. I have basically the same engine in my 1200HF and with 35mm carbuterrors max power seems to be around the 6500rpm mark and will not be higher than about 95 DIN Hp. Experts tell me that bigger carbs are the answer.
