After setting my cam timing a new noise that has developed...
It's quite difficult to describe but sounds like a deep pressure sound not a metal sound at all.
I have checked the valve position in relation to piston position in all the cylinders and it's 100%
I found that it only happens on the cylinder that has just fired - the rotor is touching the contact point in the distributor cap.
Yes the firing order is correct as well!
I removed the ht leads and she cranks fine!
Any ideas? Of course she doesn't start!

Re: Strange noise
The distributor might have been replaced in the wrong position. You should work your timing (cams and ignition) on #4. Andrea

Re: Strange noise
With a "deep pressure sound". could you actually be 180 degrees out?
Re: Strange noise
Seems to have been the rotor, at closer inspection it wasn't fitting very well inside the cap for some strange reason anyway I have a spare which replaced it with and all is well!
When I did the cam timing I turned the engine to TDC on #1 compression, put some tape on the outside of the distributor cap where #1 is and lined them up as a starting point.
Is there a replacement cap that can be purchased new? Apart of course from installing an electronic ignition.
