1600HF Rubber gasket carburettor

Hi Guys,

As most of you know, Ihave a 1600 motor fitted to my 1.3S2. The rubber gasket between the carbs and the inlet manifold is split and sucking air. When I took it off I see that someone had ground the gasket so that the diameter of the venturis is 42mm on the one side to fit the solex42's and 32 mm on the other side to fit the inlet manifold.

I have a new gasket standard for 32 mm.

The questions are:

1. Is there a different rubber gasket available for the 1600? (in other words tapered from 32mm to 42mm OR 42 to 42)
2. Is there a different inlet manifold for the 1600. (IE is it different to the 1300)
3. What should I do?

I believe the inlet manifolds are same.

I have a 1600 with 35 dellortos so have to use a std (ie non 1600) rubber flange (opened up slightly to match the chokes.

I suspect you could open up a 1300 rubber flange but you will need to check the 42 mm to see if there is still rubber left. You can do this by using a carb to rubber gasket as a guide.

You could also disassemble the flange and super glue it back together. This does work! (put it in a vice and gently close it up with the glue.

Hi Phil,

there is a different rubbergasket for the 1,6 engine.
Look on Ebay.de with Nr.: 130269884190 for diameter 42 mm
Comes from www.bielstein.com

I believe the inlet ports at the head are the same, but that the manifold itself may not be the same. Unfortunately, I don't have a stock 1600 manifold for Solexes, so that may be the same, as you suggest (even though it makes little sense to provide a 35mm port for a 42mm carb barrel). But I do have two different Gp. 4 manifolds for my 1.6HF: one is a cast manifold for 40DCOE/40DHLAs, and the other is an ex-works fabricated manifold, which will take 45DCOE/DHLAs. Both have tapered runners with 35mm ports at the head and 40mm or 45mm at the gaskets.

I think I'll do the mod myself. Andreas, I checked out ebay and bilstein and for that price I could almost buy another Fulvia in South Africa. (And even one that actually runs haha)

178 ,99 € in comparison to the offered car 8000€ + 2000€ shipping ???
seems not a real alternative. ;)

But i want only show with that there is a different between 1,3 und 1,6 gaskets.

I will try / check to use the alubriden offered on www.simca-heckmotor-ig.de/teilemarkt.htm
with a littel modifikation.
Could be a long-term solution. Only the O-Ring can wear and is easy and cheap to replace.

yes I agree. That car has been sold but was absolutely perfect and was a record price in South Africa for a Fulvia, (it actually sold for about Euro6500) We can pick up running cars (with lots of work/rust from Euro 300)

I would be interested in the other alternative, in the meantime I will modify the rubber gasket that I have.

If you look at the Bilstein ebay pics you can see that the 42's have different metal machining (less to allow same amount of rubber to match the 42 solexs). So you may end up with a step.

Phil/Ed My understanding is the mounting for 35 & 42mm Solexs are same and same as 35 and 40mm dellortos 45 dellortos/webers are different so I suspect one of the grp 4 manifolds ran 42 solexs?????

Whether original or repro, HF Gp. 4 manifolds are for Weber DCOEs or Dell'orto DHLAs, and will not work with Solex. Webers and Dell'ortos have a wider barrel spacing than the Solex;any manifold that will work for a Weber DCOE will work for a Dell'orto DHLA (and vice versa), but would not work for a Solex DDHF..

Hi Ed

My 1600 sport has 35 Dellortos in place of 42 solexs on std manifolds.

I have 45 Dellortos on an adaptor which I have yet to try which I agree are different barrel spacing from 35's.

I did wonder if 40's would be a direct replacement for the 35's as the 35's which are fantastic for low down torque run out of puff a 5000 rpm in 5th (c100mph in the sport).
