The deeper the rebuild the more is revealed....

Unread post by ekranoplan »

OK, after headgasket issue (see other posts) have discovered big end shells and mains have odd markings. They are 020" o/size and were installed during 2006 rebuild (new on invoice).

Looks like corrosion under the surface - no issue with size or thickness. Light scrape marks from bearing storage plus dark spots in very few places (dirt?). But worst looks like a metal version of eczema!

No problem with crank.

Will to to get photos soon.

Have ordered new Vanderval bearings.

Where can you get vandervell bearings? Is this a 1600?

Bearing shells from an old Porsche have same diameters as Fulvia bearings. So I have heard. The width has to be adjusted if I remember correctly. A company in Holland does this. This may be the case. Worth checking. The Porsche o/size may be Fulvia std size.

I should qualify - the last set were purchased from a supplier in Holland as part of first rebuild. These are marked with VP/Vandervell.

The "new" ones are from Omicron uk.

Apparently Standard size is least common.

Another Fulvia expert is looking into using BMW and Rover shells for both 1600 and 1300 engines.

Huib do you know any more about the Porsche model (912/914 or more modern 4 cyl?).

Thanks

I lost the mail folder with the data. I believe it was a sixties Porsche. I will try to find out again.
