Fulvia 15" wheels

Unread post by Orlando Lopes »

My question is if it is possible to put 15" wheels with 185/60 HR15 tyres in a Serie 1 Fulvia Coupe, with Dunlop break callipers, keeping the original body panels.
Happy new year for all

15" wheels are possible, but I wouldn't use the tyres you describe as the car would probably be over-geared: 185/55 would be better.

Also the width and especially the offset of the wheels is important.

The brake calipers are no problem, but too much "inset" could be especially at the front; you must measure carefully before specifying the offset to the wheel maker.

Paul
Thank's for your help.
The width is 5,5 and is written ET 34 ( I think this number is the offset ).

I do not have the figures here, but I should think that with 5.5" width, you should be OK so long as the "inset" is not too small, i.e. the centre of the wheel is not too far from the outer rim edge which could cause trouble with rubbing on the fold of metal in the wheelarch (common to all 1300s except the S3 Monte Carlo models).

There is not much clearance between the rim and the track rod end at the front which limits the distance you can move the rim inward to about 1mm.

With the 5,5J wheels and 165 wide tires there will be interference with the fold of metal in the rear wheel arch. On Elena, one of my 1967 coupe's, I extended the rubber buffer at the rear with 45 mm to stay clear of this metal fold with 165/80R13 tires on 5,5J13 wheels.
I am finishing the restoration of Tina, my other 1967 coupe where the metal fold is bent upward. I hope to just stay clear of the wheelarch but I am afraid it is not going to work. I may have to extend the rubber buffer by 20mm.
With 185 wide tires there is no way you are going to stay clear of the wheelarches unless the rubber buffer is extended.

BTW, I have now put on my winter tires which are 145R14 on the standard steel 4,5J14 wheels. The car is a whole lot faster than on the 165R13 tires.

Why is that Huib you think? Because of the smaller thread? Or because the 145x14 wheel is a little bit smaller in circumference...
I too had the plan of fitting 15"wheels to my Fulvia but I would take the Flavia S1 steel wheels with new 6" tubeless rims. In this case I can have 185 tires on a 6J rim and have the wheel made with just enough offset to clear the arch without having to opt for rolled arches or extended buffers. In my opinion the lancia S1 steel wheels are very pretty anyway.
(ps Huib can you plse reply to my stabbar mail?)

What is your question referring to?
I guess it refers to my remark that I find the car faster on the 145R14 tires.

Remember that I am not interested in racing nor high speed rallying but rapid long distance driving on country roads. With the original steel wheels and the 145R14 tires the car, the road and myself are much more in balance. It does its own steering so to speak. The connection between my mind, the car and the road is faster and requires less effort. I will probably gain half a day on a trip from the Netherlands to Gibraltar on country roads.

I have a pair of Revolution 15inch 7inch (i think or may be 8) with tyres for a fulvia. I checked they seem to fit my HF. Anyone interest in making an offer??
