different ofset for Fulvia wheels

Unread post by william »

As can be read in one of the threads on anti roll bars below I discovered that when using wider tires than the 165x13 on 5.5J campagnolos the arches are going to be hit.
The problem is that the ofset of these rims is much less than the 14"original steels. On these steel rims the offset is such that the hubflange is roughly in the same plane as the outside rim flange. Hence the wheel sits the full 4.5J inwards of the hub. On most alloy wheels I have measured this is about 4cm less. In case of, for example, a 5.5J Campagnolo it means the wheel comes more outward 4cm plus 1J is aprox 6.5 cm. This is just okay when 165 tires are fitted. I wish to have a 13" wheel with about 1cm more ofset to be able to fit a 185-70x13 tire and still have a few millimeters to spare. I do not wish to modify the wheelarch or to fit plastic wheelarch trim.
Only on Zagato bodys the competitione style wheelarch extensions give more clearance for wider rims as you have to remove the steel arch. On coupes one just poprivets the extension onto the remaining steel lip.
Question: Which 13"wheel gives the clearance I need? (I have measured and rejected FPS, Cromadora, Campagnolo and Autostil)

Ahhhhh, big, big problem. Image that the works guys even used spacers. I use these as well. Even with 235 tyres on zero offset 8in wide wheels. And make sure you do not hit the wheel arches. The abrubt braking of that wheel can cause more damage than to the wing and tyre itself. Talking out of experience.....

Might be worth machining some meat off the inner face if there's enough - your risk, of course !!!
