I've seen UFS 31 in some old mags - perhaps Brookland?

I wonder if the heater works?

Hmmm,

If I had the money, I wouldn't bid for it certainly not the wrong side of £10000 - even if it is quite a nice "special".

Front brakes are fine, but they are S2: as are the driveshafts. The rear brakes are not S1 - are they S2? I cannot see if the rear hubs are S2 or not. Steering column is S2, so the car is really a bit of a bitsa. Gearbox is later type although these were fitted to the last Fanalones - but even the early S2 1600s had the Fanalone's thin driveshafts.

I doubt the engine makes 150HP - especially with the carbs breathing all that hot air from the back of the (S2) radiator!

I wonder if the rear axle is genuine Fanalone?

I agree with Paul. Well, almost as I would not go over 5000 quid.

The doors are not Fanalone - maybe S1 1.3s or S2, Fanalone's did not have movable quater lights. Many mods, but it does say it was orignally found as a bodyshell -so I guess it was built up around what was available and best for competition. There does not seem to be much in the engine bay that is Fanalone. No note of the engine number, maybe S2, but it has S2 fan, Luminition electronic iginition, after market brake master cylinder etc. If some one wanted to turn it into a complete Fanalone it would cost as much again as it would to buy. But if someone wants a (seemingly) competitive rally car maybe it is the ticket ?

I agree with Neil; probably quite nice for historic rallying - what does one have to do to get FIA papers for a special though - anybody know?

Well spotted on the quarter lights by the way

I was wrong about the steering column: from the inside it looks like S1 - but there is a UJ at the other end!

As a matter of interest the chassis number looks OK: we have a real Fanalone here registered in May 1970, chassis number is 1540 (engine 1608).

The car was sold quite recently for 23k GBP. Upon request I inspected the pics and with my very limited knowledge of this type of cars, I emailed this list of differences last night to a potential buyer:

- Electric fan from a Series2 car (could be a sensible modification)
- Engine from a S2 car
- Oil cooler wrong
- Catch tank wrong
- Fuel tank completely wrong
- 14 in wheels instead of 13in (14in on S2 cars)
- speedometer wrong
- front brakes from a S2 (sensible mod)
- rear brakes and hand brake from a S2 (stupid imho)
- rear axle probably from a S2
- heater controls from a S2 (could mean mod of bulkhead from S1 to S2)
- steering wheel not even from a fulvia
- fuel filler not in works style
- ignition coil not mounted vertically as on a fanalone
- welding on lower wishbones
- wrong bump stops for a fanalone
- rear tow eye cannot be mounted like that on a fanalone
- one whiper missing
- chrome strips around front and rear screen should be black rubber for a
gr4 car

It is an ex Peter Gerrish car apparently. Still it makes you wonder whether this is a S1 body at all. Ever trying to fit a S2 heater in a S1 bulkhead? I tried it. No go.

But: fantastic skid plate!!!!

Yes Peter,

Quite a "bitsa" isn't it?

As for the heater, my friend Justin managed to install a S2 heater element into the S1 casing! That was a struggle I can tell you.

I think that the steering wheel might be from a FIAT 127GT (1300).

If I may add something to Peter's list:

1) hole on rear valance to allow the passage of wiring for plate lights on rear bumper
2) mixed steering column (S2* cardanic joint in engine bay, S1 steerig column cove in cockpit)
3) S2 oil filler
4) S2 air intake (which positively requires to fit a S2 chassis)

IMHO the car is not even a 818.740

All the best,

Don't forget that some of the later works rally team 'Fanalones' used S2 chassis with S1 wings, this is because they ran out of S1 chassis, so this could be one of those, but it would be later than 1970, possibly 1973 or 74. But I agree there is too much wrong with this car to warrent paying much above 7 or 8 grand.
