Series 1 (1.6 HF) Production Dates
Series 1 (1.6 HF) Production Dates
Does anyone know when production of the Series (1) 1.6HF (818-540 and 541) started and finished. I know they were produced around 1969 - 70 but i want to know specific dates if possible. Also - can you tell me how many were made with the early piggy back 5 speed box, not the later type. Thanks, Pete.
Re: Series 1 (1.6 HF) Production Dates
Yes i do have a Fanalone, but that was not the answer to my question. Do you have the answer to the question that i have asked?? All I know is from the middle of 1969 it was homologated into Group 3 (FIA required 500 to be produced). Has anyone got any specific dates?? As far as the gearbox question is concerned i have been told different answers every time !. There must be an expert out there, please help .
Re: Series 1 (1.6 HF) Production Dates
Hi Pete,
I was just pulling a joke. Sorry! I heard a story recently of somebody putting his fanalone for sale in the UK. Before he knew, too many people showed up for the car and decided to keep it because he understood how special it was.
Anyway, for the gearbox: My story is that the first 1002 of 1278 540\'s were equiped with that 4+1 gearbox. Nevertheless, it is seen by most as an exlusive item, so it might be wrong. Source: enzo altorio.

Thanks for the reply Pete, much appreciated. I have the Altorio book but do not know any Italian! Nice pictures in it however!

Interesting information.
However I am rather inclined to take Lancia's figures with a pinch of salt - for example wren't they supposed to have made 600 VAR 1016s? (rolls on floor laughing)

HiPete,
not sure if this is accurate enough for you but Wim Oude Weernink's book "La Lancia" gives production as 1970-73 Chassis Numbers 1001-4690. not sure how accurate it is but you pays your money and takes your choice!

Re: Series 1 (1.6 HF) Production Dates
The HF 1.6 was first shown at the Turin show in 1968, and a prototype 1.6 took 2nd at the Tour de Corse (9-10 Nov 1968), but Paul Frere's review in Motor (Mar 15, 1969 - probably written mid-late Jan 1969?) states that there are only 2 or 3 works prototypes--in other words, it was not actually in production. In fact, the official HF 1.6 homologation date for Group 4 was not until 1 October 1969. Therefore production probably didn't actually start until around May or June 1969 (but even that's a guess).
Re: Series 1 (1.6 HF) Production Dates
Hello Pete,
Production dates are from late 69 to late 70. There are 1258 cars produced. The first 200 cars were all in the color Amaranto Montebello with the Turin Stripe. This is like the car which is now for sale on carclassic.com. I know that cars with the numbers around 1400 are produced late 69. My car has also a piggy back 5 speed box, so at least till that number they were produced with the piggy back gearbox.
Bye,
Lucas
