transformation to twin carb in progress

Hello again... I started the twin carb job last week... I will use two twin solex c35 Pii carbs and all the goodies from an early 1500 coupe...
I have a question about water thermostat housing... it is made of aluminium and is quite corroded... I took the old thermostat out (it is written to be 83 °C) and now I will change all the hoses and use a Renault thermostat instead of the original one... Or can I use a thermostat housing of another car (anyone did this conversion?) ? I also thought of manufacturing a new thermostat housing made of stainless steel or aluminium, but I would rather buy something original ...
Another thing... I read somewhere in this forum that all the waterhoses should be original... Why ? Can t I just buy universal car hotwater hoses ?
Thanks for any reply !

Hello!
Every spare has his own reason to be there, in a lancia car mare than in others , be very careful, with out-standard spares!
When you search, a Lancia standard thermostat for Flavia costs 10 euros: dont'hesitate.

I would use a standard Lancia thermostat, but my thermostat housing is very corroded and it is impossible to use the original screw-in thermostat... therefore I will use a BEHR 83°C hose thermostat...

I am sorry but I really do not understand what you are telling me... Is it that I must use only original spare parts and not the universal (like water-hoses)?
Thanks for your reply !

I also use a hose thermostat in my flavia (Wahler 3029.83). Works fine. Ofcourse you can use other hoses, if you can find hoses in the right shape.
Best regards, Hein Reedijk.

I run a Flavia Coupe and a Flaminia Convertible
In the Flavia I still have the original thermostat but in the Flaminia the housing is also corroded and I use a hose thermostat (make Waehler)
Off course the original thermostat is wonderful if you can still fit it in the housing, but a hose thermostat of the proper temperature does a perfect job, I already run it for 6 years on the Flaminia.
Advantage of a hose thermostat is that you can easily adapt it to your climate
In Holland I run it on an 85 degree thermostat, but I ran the car over the Alps and in Italy (Tuscany) and I fitted a 75 degree one before the trip.

Hello, the transformation is finished !!! The car has more power and feels very nervous... it shakes all over the place... the sound from 2 double carbs is something sensational... I have one more question... I will have to change the two bearing inside the fan housing... I took them out but have problems finding any markers on them... I measured them, but every bearing shop told me that I must know on which car the bearing was used... and since our Flavias are very old, they are no longer listed in catalogues...so... please help me
I will record the sound of the engine as it is now and if someone wants to hear a sporty boxer, let me know...
Best regards, Jaro

Hello again... I have another question... my carbs SOlex C35 PII are producing a strange whistling noise... it is really not pleasant... And it gets stronger when the revs go up... Do you have any idea what is causing these sounds ?
Thanks, Jaro
