Wipers

Unread post by Mike Marks »

Hi there,
Just purchased a November 1997 Dedra 1.9TD S.W here in the Netherlands - love the car & I only seem to have 2 problems with it so I hope you can help!

The wipers go perfectly well on the up stroke, but if on intermittant or switched off part way through the stroke, they judder and take about 20 seconds to return to their parked position. If on non-intermittant, they go up and down perfectly.

The ECC (climate control) system works perfectly, but I cannot see the buttons in the dark!. There are little lights that do work, but they just let me know which button has been selected, I can't see the temperature control, fan control or direction buttons unless I put the interior light on. Is there one bulb for this, and if so where is it & how do I get to it.

Many thanks,

Mike

Hi, Mike,

I also have a Dedra which also had this problem with the wipers.
I solved the problem by putting some copper grease on the sliding contacts of the wiper motor.
To get to the sliding contacts you have to take off the wipers and the wiper mechanism. Then you can take the wiper motor off the mechanism and take off the round plastic cover which is mounted on the wiper motor. Just put some copper grease on the contacts and put the whole thing together again.
I had this problem about nine months ago and since i repaired it, the wipers work perfectly well.

There are a few light bulbs which light the control panel of the ECC ( i don't know exactly how much, but there are more than one ). To get to the lighting bulbs you have to take off the cover panel in which the ventilation grills are mounted ( behind the steering wheel ) BE CAREFUL not to damage the wiring of the lighting of the airflow regulators. To take it off you have to unscrew the two inbus screws which you can find at the left side and the right side of the steering wheel. If you have taken off the cover panel you can see two screws at the upper side of the ECC control panel. Unscrew these two screws. There are in total four screws which hold the ECC control panel in place. The other two screws you can find between the ECC control panel and the ashtray ( just open the ashtray and you can see them ).
If you have unscrewed these four screws you can take off the ECC control panel and you can replace the light bulbs.

I hope i've been helpful for you
Success with the fixing of these problems.

Viva Lancia!

Greetings, Michiel
