Hi Huib.

Yes, it seems that there\'s a new future for Lancia, but I think it\'s a future without the Lybra Coupé, the V8 Thesis, an HF integrale model or the Granturismo Coupé released at the Paris Show.

We can read a lot about Alfa Romeo in that article, but only four lines about Lancia. No comment...

Juan

Hi Juan

You are right when you go into the details. I am more listening to the tone and it is positive. After being a Lancista for more 34 years I have learned to live with the fact that Lancia is smaller than Alfa Romeo.

I remember an Italian TV series about the mafia in the 50's. The carabinieri were driving Fiats. The villains Alfa's and the good guys Lancia's. Maybe there are just not enough good guys left.

Ciao, Huib

HOWEVER, WE CAN HELP A LITTLE IF WE NOT ONLY COLLECT THE OLD LANCIAS BUT ALSO
PURCHASE A NEW ONE AS DAILY DRIVER!!!

Maybe yes, maybe no.

First of all, it is Lancia or rather Fiat who has decided to have no interest in the classic Lancia's and in fact has profited from subsidies which involved having classic Lancia's taken to the guillotine. This absolves any collector of old Lancia's from the obligation to buy a new one or give any support to Lancia at all.

Second, there can be only one motive to buy a Lancia and that is because it is a good car. Buying it for sentimental reasons is like subsidising and thus pooring money down the drain. It prevents the Lancia managers from facing the truth and they will continue to make the wrong cars for the wrong people and handle their customers the wrong way.

I cannot entirely agree although I would accept that the product support through the dealer network is not always so good. Lancia have still produced some good products which deserved to be more successful than they have been, I think it is important to accept that it is no longer a possibility that lancia will produce vehicles of the design and quality that ceased with the fulvia/flavia as in a comercial world it is simply unrealistic. I would also like to add that not everyone at FIAT is against Lancias heritage and dott.ing.Masala is a case in point, he is most enthusiastic and very welcoming ..... what other major company could you find where such a senior employee is willing to spend time guiding two enthusiasts around their historic collection of cars?

It is interesting, that italians are proud about their long lasting history, but show no feelings for
short term history .
Where german car manufacturers are running classic departments, the italians are offering wrecking bonus (or are thinking about).

But if I collect old Lancias and identify myself with Lancia, I want to do that every day - so if I would select
another brand as a dayly driver car, I help someone else to whom I have no sympathies.

Huib must have made rather bad experiences or I am too tolerant, however with my Lybra 1,9jtd SW Classica (the former "LX") I regularly get people asking, where one can buy this nice car.
Speaking for austrian market, I can say that marketing is nearly not existing - I remember a campaign with Harrison Ford when Lybra was introduced, since than (1999) nothing happenedto promote Lybra.

I deeply wish to have in 5 years, when my Lybras company car period is finished, another choice for an
brandnew LANCIA! Donot worry, the Lybra then will be integrated in my collection !
