Carrozzeria Garivini
Carrozzeria Garivini
Is there a book on this coachbuilder? Does anyone have any photos of any Lambdas they bodied?

Hi Don,
I was just surfing the web and found your request. No, there is no book on this coachbuilder, whose name is spelled Garavini, by the way. I have never came accross a picture of a Garavini Lambda except for some advertisments in pre-war Italian magazines like Motor Italia which I once consulted at the Museo Biscaretti, in Turin. So next time in our 'native town', please go an visit their library, it offeres a wealth of information.

Re: Carrozzeria Garivini
As far as i know there is no book on Garavini either. In the book La Favolosa Lancia there is a Garavini bodied 7th series Lambda pictured on page 67.
As a Lancia collector (sofar limited to brochures almost solely) i also have some pre-war catalogs for the Lamda none shows a Garavini-bodied Lambda. One of my Artena/Astura catalogs however holds some sheets in the back one depicting a Garavini bodied Astura.
Best regards,

No book that I know of
But at least a page on Garavini in:
Angelo Tito Anselmi
Carrozerria Italiana
Advancing the art and Science of Automobile Design
Automobilia 1980
page 42
12 pictures of Garavini bodied cars, alas no Lancias
Garavini apparently used mostly Itala chassis to body his cars

Not specifically Lancia, but a LOT on this and other obscure Italain coachbuilders in the various FIAT books by Sannia. I have extras on the Topolinos, 1500/2800s and 1100/103s. The 1100 book is out of print and being redone.
Also, the book La Sport E I Suoi Artigiani 1937 (sports cars of the artisans) has about 700 photos; 40% of which I have NEVER SEEN BEFORE, and I have been involved with Italian (and French) small displacement sports-racers for 30+ years. Again, I have some extras.

Re: Carrozzeria Garavini
Hello Don. Wim, et al,
No major reference to Garavini that I know of, but as Wim suggests, there is likely to be more material on the company in the Biscaretti. Bert Ewalds drew attention to the page of Garavini bodies illustrated on p.42 of Tito Anselmi's (ed) book Carrozzeria italiana - Advancing the Art and Science of Automobile design. In the same volume there are further references to Garavini and his work on pages 124 and 130-131. The Lambda pictured on pp. 66-67 of La Favalosa Lancia is the well-known and much-photographed 7th Series of Lucia Roveggio. I am in the process of building a replica of this car, and I have corresponded with Lucia about the origins of hers. Unfortunately, at the time when her late husband Olao was working on this, she was heavily involved with business and family commitments, and she is unable to add anything to the story of this particular car. During the Lambda years the Garavini company was very active with, as Anselmi observes, a capacity of about one thousand custom-built bodies a year. In my view it is quite likely that some of the Garavini designs of that period were the work of Mario Revelli, who was engaged by the company as a consultant.
