Kappa problems
Re: Kappa problems
I have absolutely no experience with the 16V Turbo (Thema) engine so I'll leave that for others to comment on...
Various stuff I do know about (from 20V Turbo 1999):
* Handbrake-cable often needs to be replaced more often than on most other cars (mine was replaced around 110.000km).
* A/C - I can't remember if A/C is standard equipment on the 16V Turbo but as far as I remember there is only the LS model including A/C?... Be sure it works properly... This advice kind of goes for all 2nd hand cars but my A/C cooler was leaking around 120.000km.
* Check if the pattern on each of the tires seem to be unequally worn. The undercarriage (or whatever it's called in english?) might need adjustment or some parts replaced.
* Don't pull the front passenger doorhandle too hard (when closing the door from inside). The thread of the screwhole right at the top of the handle is quite flimsy.
If you can find a 20V Turbo that's not alot more expensive then consider it. I think the "updates" are worth mentioning... Brembo Brakes in front, tempered windows, slighty updated undercarriage, visual interior details (the dashboard is not multicolored)...
The 20V Turbo uses a bit more petrol (9,3km/l against 9,4km/l from the 16V Turbo). It's not that difficult to achieve about 10km/l even at combined highway/city... but okay you gotta go easy on the throttle more than a few times then...
No matter what Kappa you buy... then congratulations... At those 2nd hand prices its a truly great car!!!

Re: Kappa problems
Like Karsten, I also have the 20V engine version. I can't find any isolated weak points on my car, except maybe the electronics. Not that I think that it fails faster or more often than on other cars, but original Lancia electronic parts are very expensive.
Having a Lancia K is always great, regardless the engine version.
