Wheels for Kappa coupe

Unread post by Bob Solbrig »

I want to preserve the original alloy wheels of my Kappa Coupe 3.0V6 (series 3, 2001).
Is there anyone who can tell me of the ET value of these Alloy wheels
This automobile uses larger Brembo brakes and wheels with a different ET value, because of the larger brake callipers.
Does anyone know of wheel manufacturers who have wheels for this coupe.
Wheel suppliers have no clue because this car is so rare.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

I am pretty sure thah the Kappa Coupe V6 uses exactly the same Brembo brakes as the Kappa 20VT (1999). Perhaps a few manufacturers know this model better?
Or do you mean "larger" Brembo brakes than the 98-update Brembo for 20VT and V6?

A S3 2001 Kappa Coupe? Was this a one off?? I would think like KM it will be the same as the 20vt S2 Brembo set up. Quite a few Coupes in the German market have aftermarket 17" alloys or bigger, so can't be too difficult.

I just remembered that Kappa shares wheel measurements with Alfa 166.
Alfa 166 has 17" (perhaps 16") in their lineup but of course they don't come cheap. But perhaps you could find some 2nd hand if you want to.
Alfa 156 wheels will not fit because the bolt-diameter is too small (98mm)
Kappa/166 shares a bolt-diameter of 108mm.

I do not know much about the history of the coupe, on the internet there is not much to find on the different series.
Before I bought this car I had a test drive in a series 2(?), 3.0V6 Coupe of 1999. The autogearbox selection was significantly different in that I have a 4 speed Comfortronic gearbox .
My car is also equiped with auto/sport selection for the dampers.
I have asked a wheelshop in England via internet about the wheels, they told me they had the same problems with Fiat Coupe wheels.
I will try the German market see what they have.

I got these from Trevor Nicosia, who has moved up to 17"s on his racecar- they're BK Racing 7x16 and fit the biggest Brembos in the range, as fitted to the 20VT, but I don't think they can be got anymore. Sorry.

We have Panther custom wheels 7X16 ET20 (215-55-16 tyres) (old RWD Volvos uses that ET!)
in -99 V6 Softtronic SW and they fit nicelely.

Original ET is 30 but there is no problem to use smaller ET, Kappa looks better that way IMO.

8X18 (ET30) + 225-40-18 is maximum tyresize for Kappa Wheels but I advice to use max. 17-inch wheels.

From Germany You find original 16-inch SW alloy wheels quite easily I think.
Also Azev has something to offer.

I bought to my Thesis Dezent RT alloy wheels 8*17 inch ET35 but i have not tried them to Kappa because Thesis has much bigger outside wheel diameter.. They cost about 75 Eur / piece here in Finland.Bob Solbrig wrote:

I think there are no official Series 3 Coupes - only Series 1 and 2 do exist.

1 and 2 is easily to sort out as 1 has a black stripe around the bumpers and series 2 is fully in car color.
And Series 2 got a high gloss "wood" trim inside.

But for the 3,0 V6 Coupes there is a kind of inofficial "Series 1,5" around meaning full Series 2 optics but still equipped with the old automatic gearbox.

The new comfortronic gearbox was introduced only about a half year after Series 2 sales start on the market.

Would be interesting now what is the rarest k Coupe of them all:
1.
Series 1 - 2,0 16 V Turbo Coupe
(officially made only for the italian market and only in 1997 I think - later changed to 2,0 20V)
2.
Series 2 - ( "Series 1,5") 3,0 V6 automatic
(new optics & old gearbox)
or
3.
Series 2 - 3,0 V6 comfortronic
(new optics new gearbox)

Kind Regards - hope it is not too confusing........ JK

To your question:

As I know only the 2,0 Turbo Coupes have bigger brembo brakes and therefore need a bigger ET with the
alloys .
The 2,4 5 cylinder and the 3,0 V 6 Cylinder had always from start to end of production the same
brake system and therefore the same alloy wheels.

If you use turbo alloys on 2,4 or 3,0 Coupes - which is possible - be careful there are
new shorter screws needed - even if the alloys look nearly the same - if you do not use them damage
to the ABS system is possible.
YOU CAN NOT take 2,4 and 3,0 alloys for a 2,0 Turbo Coupe.

Manufacturer is always - Speedline Italy - you will get both new here in germany for about 260 Euros
a piece.

If have near new 2,4 and 3,0 V 6 alloys in stock here in germany with near new winter tires.
Post your email if you are interested - Kind Regards JK
