I had problems like this with my Y-10.

It would cut out or not start almost at random.

The solution was to replace the distributor. There are two types fitted to Y-10's, one has a small heatsink on the side, black in colour and easily spotted because it is fitted with fins. This is the unreliable type in my experience. The electronics contained within this heatsink bit are prone to failure.

The other type does not have this feature and one should be sought out at the local scrap yard/car merchants.

Hope this helps.
