Intermittent tachometer 1974 S2 / Shift Knob replacement

hi all - new to this car -
1) car is in generally great shape but the tachometer "hangs out" around 3500 RPMs when I'm just driving down the road - it'll start moving if I really step on the accelerator of if I am at a stop - is the best way to do this to rebuild the tachometer?
2) cannot seem to find the HF shift knob anywhere - does anyone have a source? Also, when I turn my knob, the entire shaft spins - is this normal? How does one replace the shift knob?
Thank you!!

About the tachometer. I posted on this before. Search this forum on "schematic" and you will get there.

Thanks - unfortunately I am not able to really understand the schematic due to my limited electronics knowledge. Can you simplify the issue for me? Does the tachometer need to be rebuilt? Thanks a lot.

Is the instrument made by Veglia Borletti or Jaeger?

In that case the circuit diagram of the electronics which I made and published applies.
The input resistor should be checked and possibly replaced. You will have to find someone who understands electronics and can read the color codes.

Thanks - are there any reputable sources to have this done by a specialist?
