Fuel Smell

I have a strange thing on my S2, i get fuel around the fuel cap, and theres a huge smell of gas outside of the car, if i drive with the windows closed i cant sense it, but all it takes is to open one to get a strong smell, the fuel apears on the lower part of the gas door compartment, from that stick on the right to the other side, what can cause this?
