strange error in automatic heating system

Hello -
the Automatic Heating System of my Lancia Thema shows a strange error. The display of the controll reacts to every "user input ". I can change temperature and direction of the airflow but the engine of the system always runs with full speed (which is quite annoying because its rather loud and to stop it i always have to pull the fuse)

Any ideas?

This sounds like an easy one. If your fan is blowing full speed all the time then the problem is the rheostat.

If you look at the end of the fan motor which is beside the motor for the windscreen wipers then you will see at the 9 o'clock position on the end of the fan casing that there is an oval shaped box of about 10 cms length. This is the rheostat and it can be pulled out of the casing for the fan motor quite easily. You'll need to find a replacement for the rheostat and the Lancia Thema consortium in the UK might be able to help. www.lancia-tdc.co.uk.

If your car has the full air conditioning system then the rheostat is located in a much more difficult position, but I'm assuming you have the normal climate control system.

thanks for your reply . Indeed my thema is equipped with the basic climate control system without.

I also ran the self diagnosis system by pressing the "automatic" button while starting the car. Everything seems to respond fine except the value for "temperature -" at test phase three which tests the sensor for mixed air temperature. This value should show the current mix air temperature but showed 46 with number six mirrored (?!?! STRANGE ghost in the machine) Possible error values are 83 for a short-circuit or 01 for a interruption so the strange 46 value is not covered by the manual.

Is there any way to check if its really the rheostat without changing the part?

Thanks for your offer. In fact I´m from vienna. But however - help from experienced owners is always welcome when you drive the diva

Btw . do you think it´s possible to repair the broken rheostat? I don´t want to throw it away, because I think in near future this part will be really hard to find. (like the small piece of plastic which covers the front hook.. impossible to get from lancia and also hard to find elsewhere...)

I've never tried to repair one as I'm a member of the Thema Dedra Consortium ( www.lancia-tdc.co.uk ) and we have such a huge stock of Thema/Dedra spares that there's no point.

I'd strongly recommed that you join as we can source almost any part you need and could get that front bumper tow eye cover you need. We might even have it in the right colour as we really do have that many parts.
