I own a1993 model and do consider it to be considerably quicker than a 2.0 litre Dedra which I owned previously. Can anyone tell me what the BHP is of the 2.0 VIS and exactly how the VIS operates.
Being an English car this one sounds like good value and should be fine except for the possibility of salt corrosion.

A friend of mine has owned 2 of these with automatic boxes and have been fast cruisers, the first was driven from England down to Italy for a rally 4 up with no problems. The return journey being completed in a day with each person doing a stint.

I think they are rated at 150bhp by i am not certain. The system works by having 2 inlet tracks, a short one for high speed and a long track for high torque when wanting a fast get away. A butterfly valve changing between the 2. I would suggest it is probably the same principle and the BMW VANOS system.

Power is listed as 155bhp.

VANOS is a variable camshaft timing system as opposed to the VIS, which is as Finan says, a dual-length inlet runner system that switches to the shorter runner at higher revs to optimise the ram effect at higher revs (or switches to the longer ones at lower revs - depends how you look at it).
