Hello from New Zealand - Information needed for Delta Evolution 1 please.

Unread post by OLLIE_NZ »

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas first off :)
I've just found a 1992 Lancia Delta Evolution for sale here in New Zealand.
I'm quite keen on buying it, but I thought I'd ask a few questions here before I undertake the 5 hour drive to view it.
I'm guessing it's a genuine Evolution model as this is what I'm after. Is there any tell tale differences between the standard 16v Delta Integrale and the Evolution model?
Do the pictures indicate anything suspicious, ie Wrong interior, wheels, body parts etc?.
The car is being advertised for $12,000NZD which is 6,441.51 EUR or 4,315.84 GBP how does this price compare to others for sale in Europe or the U.K.
Obviously it has a few things that need tidying up but they're extrememly rare down here in New Zealand and I'm willing to spend the time working on it
If anyone can help me with theses few questions then I'd be most gratefull.
Here's a link to the website where the car is being advertised, it also includes a few pictures.
Thanks for your time,

Ollie,

Hi Ollie,

the differences between the 16v integrale and the Evolutiuon are:

- Evo has wider wheel arches both front and rear
- Evo has 5 stud whellhubs instead och 4
- Evo has 3 bolts fixing the front damper to the bodyshell instead of two
- Evo has a strut brace
- Evo has a rear spoiler
- Evo has different types of gauges compared to the 16 valve integrale
- Evo has smaller head lights
- Evo has different front indicators
- Evo has different front and rear bumpers
- Evo has a single pipe exhaust
- Evo has different alloy wheels
- Evo has different side skirts

I may have missed some characteristics...

My guess is that this car probably is a true Evolution. The only suspected details are the head ligths and the side indicators. Theese differences tells me that this car is prepared for the Japanese market. Car exported to Japan where equipped with the old integrale head lights and different type of side indicators. Some people also claims that the japanese cars where fitted with a different ECU, but I am not sure.

The only way to be absolutely sure is to get the cars chassis number.

It's hard to tell if the price is good or bad before inspecting and driving it. If the engine and transmission are in good condition, and the bodyshell doesn't have any rust or cracks, then it probably is a good price.

Wow,
Thanks for the prompt and informative reply Stefan!
Yes I've spoken to the owner and the car has come from Japan.
I'll phone the owner again and get the chassis number off him, can you or someone else here tell me alot more of the history of the car once I get the chassis number?
Hopefully the engine and gearbox are in good order, it's a shame the front and rear bumper has cracks and they look costly to replace/repair.
Thanks again,

Ollie.

The chassis number will for sure tell you if the car i a true Evolution. I am not sure if it's possible to get any history of the car with the chassis number, except check with your local police to be sure the car isn't reported stolen.

I will really advice you to visit the EvoCorner Forum which is the largest integrale forum on internet.

Hi Ollie, what are your plans for the car, are you going to race it, or convert it to R/H drive? I gave serious consideration to this car, but it was going to work out too much by the time I bought a donor to convert it. Nice to see one down here all the same.
