I'm currently trying to solve some problems that has occured recently.
The car runs good at times, but sometimes it seem to get too little or too much fuel..
The sympthomes are:
Unstable idle rpm at +-5000 more and more frequently, usually when cold.
Unstable when driving also sometimes when warm, espescially when getting turbo pressure.
2 times taking about a minute to start the car, after that running lousy, only getting 3500rpm on any gear.
Spark plugs gets black emidiately after changing them.
Engine oil gets polluted with fuel, I have changed the oil 3 times since march! Compression is OK.
Coupé smells heavily of gasoline after 1 minute driving.
I have changed air filter, oil filter, fuel filter and all 4 belts recently.
Any answer is highly appreciated. Thanks!

8v Turbo engine problem
Re: 8v Turbo engine problem
Did you check the air-amount measurer? If this part does not work correctly the electronic engine control gets confused and the mixture is not correct. I'm almost sure that you can watch the following: If you keep the accelerator pedal in the same position the rpm's behave like a "saw-tooth".
In my experience the fuel-pump eather works or not. If it does not work the engine does not run at all.
I had similar sympthomes with my 3L/V6-Engine.
Hope that helps:

Re: 8v Turbo engine problem
correction: Unstable idle rpm at 500 not 5000 - off course
Re: 8v Turbo engine problem
I think you are right. I am trying to find a new(used) meter now. I see that 2.0 ie uses 0280202059, while 2.0ie Turbo uses 0280202060. Anybody know if it is possible to use 0280202059 on a turbo engine?
Re: 8v Turbo engine problem
too much fuel can be caused by leaking hoses on the pressure side of the Turbo - I had a problem where the large rubber pipe connecting to the plenum chamber had a split in it - car would run fine until boost comes in then would run very rich.
Other issues can be caused by blocked air bleed holes in the throttle body (a fairly common problem I'm told) - requires removing the throttle body, stripping and cleaning.
The fuel enrichment computer (on my car anyway) is towards the front right of the car behind the headlight and under the radiator header tank. The car will run with this disconnected (when warm at least) but will run leaner - you don't want to try too much boost with this disconnected. If the car runs better with this removed, it may be faulty or it may be getting faulty signals. It does get very difficult to fault find. I had 2 Themas at the same time (one since run its bearings) so I could swap parts between cars which was a help.
I had taken the car to the dealer twice for the rough running, and they could not find the problem. It was only when I got got really frustrated and removed everything from the air filter to the plenum chamber that I found the split pipe.
Good luck

Hey man thanks a lot!
I checked the pressure hoses, and found that the large rubber pipe was cracking up by the connection to the throttle body. I changed it and the engine ran well for a couple of days. Then it started jumping again and i realised the air-debit meter had to be faulty too. Changed it and now it runs well again. Hope it lasts!
