Right...I changed the fuse for the locking and that was ok.The only thing isthat now when I lock with the key in the lock it locks the car briefly then it unlocks again.I get round this by locking and unlocking a few times till the central locking decides to not work anymore.Then I lock it manually.The remote locking bit on the keyring needs a new battery but I don,t know if this makes any difference.BTW it unlocks fine when I go back to the car after work or whatever.I might just pull the fuse and lock it manually.

make sure all your doors are shut properly then try to locking the car

ok... i went out and tried that to no avail.Any other suggestions?Apart from putting it into a garage and actually paying for it!!

I had the same problem with my car.
One of the doors is either not shut properly or the locking mechanism on one of the other doors has not returned to a neutral position.
I would get the problem if I had unlocked/locked the car from the passenger side - then the car would not lock from the drivers side. Using the passenger side lock (or removing the door trim and lubricating the lock) would fix it.

There is another possible cause of the problem...
In each lock there is a small microswitch, it is made of black plastic and has a brass lever. The switch has two wires coming out of it and it clips into a seat on the doorlatch mechanism. It can be accessed once the door trim is removed so don't go removing the locking mechanism.
If this switch has become stuck then the central locking may think that the door is open, but you will be able to diagnose this because the door open warning will appear on the dashboard.
When replacing the switch make sure that the lever is correctly positioned so that it is beneath the latch mechanism that depresses the lever.
The Microswitch is the same for all the doors.
