Hello!!! I’m a “happy” owner of the Lancia Thema 16V Turbo (834C1000) My engine is broken and I decided to do the capital repair. I got the cylinder had with injectors from normal 16V engine, so the question is:
1) May I change the cylinder had from the 16V to 16V turbo engine.
2) May I live the injectors (will it work properly on 16V Turbo).
3) May I change the con-rods from normal 16V engine to 16V Turbo (it seems to mi that they are the same, bat the bearing brasses have lock on the other side).
If some one can help me, please...........................
Thank You
Some questions about the engine 2.0 16V Turbo
Re: Some questions about the engine 2.0 16V Turbo
Hello,
I own a '93 turbo16V and a '91 atmo16V,
The engines look the same, and i think mechanically they are much alike, but:
the compression ratio of the turbo is lower then the atmospherical ( i believe it is about 8bar for the turbo and more than 9 for the atmo), because of the charged inlet air of the turbo.
So IF you could fit a 16V head on a turbo, the pressure at turbo charged regime would rise above critical and the fuel wil ignit by itself before spark ignition. If you are lucky, the knocking sensor will detect this and lower the turbo pressure (bye bye turbo performance).
Mayby, if you could fit a 16V head with turbo camshafts, but i have no idea if this is possible (idoubt).
What exactly is broken on the turbo engine? maybe it's easier to overhaul the original engine.
If you really want to try the 16v head, i can search the details about the 2 different heads for you.
regards
pojac

Hello,
the hads are the same. But the outlett valves and camshafts are different. The compression ratio is lower because the pistons from the turbo engine have a deeper ground.
