V6 hot starting problem

My V6 Thema runs beautifully most of the time but occasionally refuses to start when its been running for awhile. If I leave it for an hour to cool down it starts perfectly. I'm told its most likely to be a problem with the pressure relief valve in the fuel pump - can anyone confirm this or do you have other suggestions?

Do these models idle roughly especially when cold?

My wife can't understand why I have to drive "a tempermental Italian Bitch" (her words) but once you have owned one Lancia you seem to want to have another

I had the same problem with my 1992 Thema V6 some time ago, but it occured only one time.

Some months later, the engine had very poor power if it was lukewarm
and also not full power if it was hot. If the car was cold (in the mornings), everything worked fine.

All the problems were caused by a rotten exhaust! Depending on the temperature, a metal sheet inside the exhaust moved and closed the exhaust partly.

Some malfunctions are very difficult to find on these cars. In my opinion, it is the only way to find a real Lancia specialist for repair and service.

I too have a 2.8 V6, I think they are getting extremely rare these days! Paul, do you live in the UK? If so, do you know of any experts which have knowledge of these cars? Its virtually impossible to find anyone in this country which does.

In response to your query regarding hot starting, my car has no problems at all with this (81k miles). I do, however, have a bit of a rough idle when the engine is just started. In the first 30 or 60 seconds when started from cold the idle fluctuates from 750 to 1200 rpm.

It would be great if any of you 2.8 owners out there could contact me as I would like to have as much knowledge as possible on these cars.

I talked to an fiat dealer and they had the same problem with Croma. The problem was caused by a broken rpm/tdc sensor.
