Unread post by Chris D. »

Having now sorted my missing oil pressure, (strip front of motor AGAIN!!! and prime pump with STP).. I now need 2 other things..

Fuel and a Spark..!.

Can anyone help with info, about what the system checks before it will give fuel
pressure, Is it dependant on any paritcular sensor or a number of them .
EG. Does it check for oil pressure like some injected Rover cars do ?
Info desperately needed to finished the Thema off .
The car has been dormant for a year now..

thanks Chris

Please help me with info.

I'm about to buy a Thema 2.0i second hand. Can anyone write me things worth checking before purchase, like tipical weak points of chassis or instruments etc.

My dad had a Thema long-long years ago, and I have good memories of the car, but some friends are trying to scare me off saying that it's corroding easily, the electric wirings, gadgets etc. are shoddily assembled.

Please tell your experience of the car.

Thanks.

I looked through the wiring schematics, and the fuel pump voltage is switched thru the tachometer relay. The voltage for the fuel injectors are switched by this unit also. So, If you don't have a spark, all your fuel system will be disabled by the tach relay.
Have you checked, cleaned and tightened every ground point you can find? My car died last year- no fire- and it ended up being a faulty ground connection on the ground point below the headlights, on the frame. There is one on each side, they are the push on connectors, and mine were covered in grime, and very loose. After I cleaned and tightened up the connectors, car fired up fine. No problems since.
I have schematics, and can email if you would like. They are for the Series 1, up to 89 I think, and don't cover the breakerless ignition, unfortunately. They are better than nothing though.

Good Luck,
Mike

I think that the Themas are a very good car overall. From what I have read as far as the rust problem, the older Lancias were very bad about rust, but the Themas have overcome this problem. I don't have any problems with mine yet anyway.
The wiring is a nightmare. I have owned many cars, and this is the first I have seen the wiring done inthis manner. The grounds for sensors and gauges all seem to be fed to ground points in several locations on the car. This in essence doubles the amount of wiring run throughout the vehicle. Every other car I have owned just ran the power or control wire to a relay or sensor/guage and grounded the unit to the engine or chassis, instead of running another wire to a grounding point.
My car refused to start one morning last year, and this is how I learned about the grounding system. The problem appeared to be a faulty ignition module- no fire- but several people from this message board suggested cleaning all ground connections. Sure enough, cleaning and recconnecting grounds solved the problem.
So, all in all, the Thema is a rock solid car in my opinion, I have only had the one problem with grounds so far. Other than the funky wiring, the car is excellent.

Hope this helps.
Mike
