van on radiator

In my '90 Thema V6 AUT the van on the coolsystems radiator decided not to turn on anymore. It seems that the van itself is ok. The garage says: it's to much work ($$) and they think there is a wire broken somewhere ..... Where is the relay situated that controls the van? Is hand-control a smart option?

The relay is below the dashboard right below and behind the radio and ash tray. I had the same problem with my fan, and the problem was corroded contacts in the relay. I cracked open the relay and cleaned, problem solved. It was a real pain to get at the relay, Lancia puts a plastic barrier under the carpet in this area, I broke it out to get at the relay.
