I changed mine recently and made a note of the number of the one that came off the car - this was 580 464 019 - so neither of the numbers you mention! But I've no idea whether it's the correct one. I tried a couple of local autospares shops and both said they were able to get new equivalent replacements, but eventually got a second hand one from the Gamma Consortium (Jack Romano)but didn't note the number when I put it on. The Bosch website says that they now produce only 7 models which cover 72 OEM models

Guys,

I'm suffering from a dead fuel pump too, but I believe that its just a bad power supply due to a poor connection somewhere, however, it may be something more serious.

My question is, did your pumps die suddenly or did they go through a period of intermittent functioning before completely giving up?

My specific problem was on a coupe I bought last October as a non-runner, and it turned out that the main problem was that the fuel pump was duff, so unfortunately I can't give you an answer as to whether it failed suddenly or over a period of time. Jack Romano did send me a second hand one, but I notice that this is much noisier than the one on my other coupe so perhaps it's also on it's way out. I was quoted about £80 for a new equivalent from a couple of local auto accessory shops.

Ian,

Thanks for the fast reply. I've been testing the pump today and its apparently OK, the problem is that I can't get any power to the pump. I've changed the connectors at the pump and tested with a voltmeter, but no juice!

I'm pestering Jack Romano with questions so hopefully I'll get the big beauty out on the roads to enjoy the summer.

Crazy electrics!!!

Best of Luck,
Mike

Have you got a copy of the Bosch L-Jetronic Electronic Fuel Injection Operation & Diagnosis Manual?

Not sure if Jack can still supply copies but this has a good diagnostics section on fuel problems. The double remote control switch has a couple of relays in it, one of which controls the power to the fuel pump but the problem could be any one of a number of things. There is also for example a fuse in the power feed to the pump. Not sure if you know all this - apologies if I'm stating the obvious.

Guess what!?

There's an emergency fuel cut off switch under the dashboard. On my car it wasn't bolted to the bulkhead and someone had just rammed it up in behind the dash so that it eventually was triggered (probably by me just kicking the wrong wires). Pulled out the rad stalk and away she goes!

Easy fix! Big thanks to Jack R for the advice.

Now I've just got to tackle the tail lamps that come on 10 minutes after the front lamps. Steering column switch or a bad earth?
