Help needed - camshaft setup

Unread post by AdrianoM »

Hello, guys

On behalf of the owner of the only running Gamma in Ukraine, I would like to ask you:
- Does anyone know how to set the timing belt and camshafts after engine restoration? There seem to be no makrs or holes on/in the cogged wheel.

Advice or photo will help. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Set the flywheel to the 0 position. In the camshaft wheels is a hole. If you look through the hole you should see a lining on the bearing house of the first bearing of the camshaft. One side its at around two o'clock, the other side its about three oclock. There is a special tool for this, when you stick it into the hole it fits around the lining on the bearing house. It was though up nicely by the factory, but I never use it.
A Gamma in the Ukraine huh, I didnt I would not have held that for possible.
take care,
erik

Thanks! I will pass this know-how to my friend.

P.S. Yep, we have at least 2 Gammas - both Berlina's. One is 2.5, but it is an enormous restoration project.
P.P.S. BTW, I have a Beta HPE 2000 (circa 1979) - this week we start dismantling everything for bodyworks. ^)
