What to check when buying a used Dedra?

Unread post by Elias Aarnio »

Hello,

I tried to search the archives of this forum in order to find information on what to check when buying an used Dedra. Before I drive 150 km to check out a Dedra 1.6 ie, could you please give me some advise on what to check. The car has 290 000 kms on it.

Where does the corrosion start on Dedra? Other known weak spots or "you do not want to have it if you find this" like items?

Cheers,

Elias

George,

Thank you for your advice. It seems I have use for it.

Have I understood correctly that that the bottom (sorry for the inaccurate expression - car terminology is not my strongest field in English :-). of the car is made of galvanized plate but the doors and all parts above the "bottom plate" are not galvanized?

Hi George,
Sorry to disagree, but all Dedra's are galvanised. To qoute from a 1992 Dedra Brochure. "100% Galvanisation of all exterior steel" and was one of the main reasons I bought the first of the 4 Dedra's I have owned/own.
However, another place to look is under the carpet in the boot at the base of the inner wheelarches, and also behind the wheelarches, this is often caused by the drain tubes from the rear of the sunroof being
displaced, which then allows water to run inside the boot.
Also check the flange inboard from the sills both sides as gravel and stones thrown up by the front wheels strips the protection back to bare metal and consequent rust.
