Delta rear suspension

Unread post by Rob MacFarlane »

I'm currently rebuilding the rear wheel arches on my HF turbo ie. Although I've been very carefull, the camber on the rear wheels is out by 2-3 degres. When I looked in the handbook it said there was no camber adjustment on the rear wheels, nightmare!!! There are 4 transverse links (metal rods) that conect from the rear crossmember to the stub axles (2 each side) the rear transverse links are adjustable but the front ones are fixed. So I'm thinking of replacing the fixed links with another pair of adjustable ones which are the same length & fitting. Does this sound like a good idea, what do you think ?
Thanks Rob Macfarlane

Hello Rob,
Sounds OK - the early Betas had four adjustable links. I guess that they simply cheapened the production by making two fixed length. However a bit of negative camber won't do much harm - may even help. I always increase the camber on the front of my Deltas (3 of them) and currently drive an integrale which has a bit of negative camber as standard. The mod is to drill the upper bolt holes on the strut so that the hub carrier can rotate backwards a bit - clamp it tightly with some big thick washers and it will stay put. You need to re-set the toe-in though.
btw - the Beta and Delta transverse links are the same size/fitting.

Thanks for your reply Leo,
I just wanted to make sure that it was a good modification to do. I'll keep an eye out for some good second hand transverse links & I'll have full camber adjustment of the rear wheels - sorted! Regards, Rob Macfarlane

Don't no I you have solved your problem yet but I had a prob where the one side was out. What I had done to mine I think was where the strut joins at the bottem the hole was slotted to give some movement and then the camber was reset but a washer wash welded in place to keep the bolt from moving.

Or something like that.
