I have a 99 model which I have had from new, look for the following. erratic action of windscreen wipers on intermittent, worn track rod ends (I think there has been a bad batch of these around the time my car was built), worn ball joints on front suspension arms, failing clutch cylinder (listen for squeaking as you push/relaese the pedal), catalytic converter rattles, faulty hrw switch on column stalk, corrosion on the alloy wheels, noisy water pump that's all I can think of at the moment that's happened to mine it is also worth checking the coolant radiator for leaks as it is a bit prone to failure. You can check when the car was actually built by looking at the airbag label in the glovebox, the date shown there is 10 yeras after construction, it's worth looking as some of these cars stood around unsold for some time

Hi,

I too have got one of 7/'99.
However there is no airbag for the passenger(is there still a label?).
How can I check when the car was really made(by looking at the date of the windows?)?
What's a 'hrw' switch?
What are track rod ends?

if you e mail me your full chassis number I can tell you when it was made, hrw = heated rear window, track rod ends are the joints at the end of the steering arms that turn the hubs

the label I refer to should be inside the golve box it is not on an airbag, it tells you when you should get your airbag checked whiuch is always ten years after it was first fitted
