Programming Lancia Keys.

Unread post by Julian H. Tice »

Does anyone know how the Lancia code / Remote control key system works? After the electronics in one of my Delta HPE keys failed we bought a new one - only the local dealer claims they can´t get into the system with the codes and obviously doesn´t understand the workings of it. Now they want to charge us for a new receptor even by their own admission they don´t know what the problem is.

Thanks in advance....

Julian.

As i believe like all Fiat cars you need the "Red" key which is the key to the whole system. The programming of the system occurs when the igntion is first switched on with the "Red" Key.

If you have a spare a good lock smith may be able to programme a new key from it.

Thanks to Simon for the post.

As far as I understand it the red key is necessary to gain entry to the system. There exists a control/receptor box located in the recess of the rear courtesy light which manages all the code/key system. There is a code which is associated with the car which controls the ant-theft ignition block. There is a code associated with each key which must be registered in the control box for the "code" system to work (anti-theft) and the remote control central locking to operate.

The service guys at the local garage say that this is very much of a black-art and that the diagnostic kit they have often can´t resolve the problems. Solution: new control box

They are a very large dealer for part of central Portugal so we are unlikely to get a more authoratitive answer on how this works.

hmmm.............this all seems a bit extreme to me, I thought the receptor was in the courtesy light on cars with the old infra red central locking system, I have a manual for the fiat code system somewhere if i can find it (it is not at home) I will have a look and post a reply
