Read the older stuff on overboost, can someone tell me what it is and what it does/should do. At the moment, I only get the overboost light on when I turn on the ignition. I have a HF turbo

Same old overboost trouble.... it is supposed (and do when it works) allow turbo pressure to go to max? during 30 seconds between RPM 3500 to 5500 when full throttle depressed and all the time over 5500 (let's say never...).
There are a lot of reasons for this device not to work, first is throttle link not able to fully open the venturi (tuning, need of grease, carpets, etc...), electrical valve releasing the turbo regulator not working, ECU troubles, leaks in turbo pipes, set up of the throttle sensor not correct (does not detect you are full open) etc...
but when it works... on my 89 grale 8V, pressure raise from 0.7 bar to near 0.9 and that really makes the difference. I love to see and feel this light on in third gear... (rare that turbo had time to deliver enough pressure in first and second gear.....)
