Okay, I think I figured it out. The "dip switch" on the headlights stalk turns on the "city lights". The stalk itself move in an L shape... forward and up is headlights off (or city lights only). Move the stalk down and you turn on the headlights. From the forward/down position (lights on) pull back towards the driver to engage brights, forward to return to regular headlights. It all appears to work fine. The button on the dash turns on the dash lights.

But what then is the FLASH button for on the directional stalk? I know it seems to turn the lights on, but when you move the regular lights stalk then, it turns the FLASH off. How was this little gem of engineering intended to be used? Call me perplexed...

It all seems to work though!

Swapped out my steering wheel today - no issues at all. Just needed to buy a 24mm socket for my 1/2 inch drive, a little muscle, and the bolt came off. As far as the wheel itself, a few good YANKS on the wheel and it popped right off too.

I put a Nardi 365mm classic wood wheel on it with a MOMO Lancia horn emblem (couldn't find a Nardi one). All it took was some searching for the right horn adaptor, and the hub adaptor itself of course which was also pretty hard to find at first. But I found a company - Luisi - that sells model-specific units on eBay -even for the Fulvia (two types - early models and 70 onward). Good hub, but through away their screws and buy some good ones at the local hardware store.

Looks great, feels good, glad I swapped it out.

Tires appear fine. No loss of air and I'm driving it daily. I'm going on a Toys for Tots rally tomorrow. Buncha Ferrari dudes who invited us lesser Italians to join the fun. I'm anxious to see what kind of feedback I get from the afficionados there.

This'll be a good test of the tires, to see if I can count on them lasting 2-3 months, which is what I'd like to get out of these. That should give me enough experience with the car and time to research wheel and tire options to find a permant solution. Now that I know these wheels really SHOULD have tubes - regardless of the tire - I'm even more determined to find some more modern allow that doesn't.

I'll let you all know what I come up with.
Ciao!

The 'flash' button is for flashing the main beams for passing during the day, when the headlights are off.

In your neighborhood, this may or may not work. Most Americans are either clueless in this regard, or too busy talking on the cell phone to pay attention. Here in LA, rear view mirrors are for personal style adjustments only...

The flash button flashes the dip (low) beam, not the main (high) beam like it does in every other car. It's a little Lancia strangeness. That's why it doesn't work any more when the dipped beam is in operation. Nor when the main beam is in operation because the dips remain lit.

WHAT ? INSULTS FROM A FELLOW FULVISTI !!! WHAT'S THE WORLD COMING TO ?
WHAT LEADS U TO BELIEVE WE (U) R 'LESSER' AFFICIONADOS; DUDE ?
JUST CAUSE ferrari R LOUDER, BURN 3x MORE GAS & REQUIRE $5000 TUNE UPS (not to mention cost o' parts; insurance, leasing etc) & DON'T EVEN TURN HEADS (anymore) DOESN'T MAKE THE UNFORTUNATE OWNERS ' MORER* AFFICIONADOS' THAT WE !!!
(*morer = opposite of lesser).
IN FACT, IT IS MY NON-HUMBLE OPINION THAT LESS OF EVERYTHING (Fulvia) = MORE !!!!
WHY, ANY DANG FOOL WITH A LOTTA MONEY CAN BUY/DRIVE/STEAL A ferrari !!!
WHY, THEY R ON EVERY STREET CORNER THESE DAYS. THEY'R SO COMMON THAT UR AVERAGE 22 YEAR OLD MULTI-BILLIONAIRE RAP-STAR WON'T BE SEEN DEAD IN 1 !!!
LESS OF EVERYTHING = MORE = FULVIA.
LESS FULVIA R THRU-OUT THE WORLD & WE OWN THEM !!!! MORE FUEL & LESS EVERYTHING ELSE = WISE-ECONOMY !!!
DON'T FORGET - MORE (cheap) FUN !!!!!
LESS XPENSE BUYING = FULVIA ( 1 ferrari for the sam as price of 6 to 15 FULVIA !!!)
LESS CYLINDERS, LESS MONEYS SPENT ON TUNE UPS = MORE (money for other things !!!).
LESS INSURANCE yipee) , A HOLE LOT LESS FOR TIRES 8as U have discovered) etc etc....
I BETTER STOP NOW OR THIS'LL TAKE ALL DAY !!!!
& BESIDES, WE FEW - THE NICEST & MOST (more) SOPHISTICATED DRIVERS ON THE PLANET -
R THE 'TRUE AFFICIANADOS !!!!!!!! AM I RIGHT OR AM I RIGHT !!!!

HOLD YOUR HEAD HIGH & REPRESENT US ALL PROUDLY.

Hi Ed,

In all Euro countries I drive in - which means many West-Euro but not all (never been to Porto) ... & since Eur is no longer divided, there are many East countries I've never even been near & maybe will never ever drive in), the flashers R used as:
day-or-night "courteous-request-indicators" - 'please move over, I'd like to pass'
or
as a "rude-threat" - 'move the ____ over you blood_ - f___ing-fool or I'll drive over your roof'.
I, of course, am always in the "courteous-mode".
In a Fulvia (not fastest car on the highway, in any country) & other small cars, we 'usually' move-over when requested; very quickly when a 2 ton Mercedes S-Class is approaching @ speed of light or risk the wrath of the bigger & heavier. Survival of the Fattest !!

Several times, in the UK, I, as driver & as passenger, have been flashed...you guessed it ... for driving on the wrong (right) side of the road. We / I was thankful for rapid, intense, panicky warning-flashes, before injury occurred. Whew !!!!

what ? no chains hitched onto a tractor ? no bloody knuckles ?
Well, I am so happy for you having to not go thru the same adventure (of sorts) that I did.
I looked, just 4 fun, l@ ebay.it - fulvia - last eve... more nice looking fulvia listed & several non-fulvia.
Several late-model -Flavia- 2000 Berlina listed. With beautiful rosewood-color - real-wood - giant-sized rudders & blondwood dashboards.
As did the 2000 I owned for some time in 70's. Back then ( I remember now) I wondered why the blatant mismatch ? Still, the dash wood was lovely & was the wheel, so swapping wheel or dash wood never occurred to me.
Some Lancia steering wheels R just cheap & ugly. Series 2 Gamma for example, lifted from a Polish Zastava or a Russian Lada. & some R works of art; witness the 2000 standard wheel or the S1 Beta Coupe wheel ( & dashboard); both were not carried over to the later models, which also (it seems) adapted the Zastava / Lada look... Lancia lovers around the world must have wept !!!

correction, I erased some words by mistake :
MORE FUEL & LESS EVERYTHING ELSE = WISE-ECONOMY !!! should read:

More Fuel MILEAGE & Less Everything else = etc.

now it makes (more) sense
