Fulvia spares do you take on long trips and events ?

Unread post by Fulvia as in Claire »

OK... I've had enough ! It sounds like that maybe everybody (except me) is a
a) electrician
b) mechanic
c) brain-surgeon
and can diagnose & repair - almost-always - almost any problem - that may occur - anywhere.

Or - borrowing an recommendationon this very same topic - from a smart Lancia Gamma owner - as read in "Lancia Gamma Forum" - at sometime in the ancient past (2007) loosly translated..........

Parts for a Trip ? : just take "everything" wheel bearings, brake pads.....because - even if you can't do much yourself - there is always a Garage or a Bosch (type) Shop that "can-do more than you-can-do - "on the side of the road" somewhere close. Even if you are in a country where you don't speak the language.
It is always better to have too much than to be stuck awaiting parts that will take forever to get to where ever you are. In such a case you can rest assured that the parts that arrive will not fit & you will have to pay a lot of Euro to get the car flat-beded to somewhere else.

I will say: warning flares, flashlite, reflective vest, warm blanket or sleeping bag, prayer-beads

Fulvia as in Claire,

Thanks!

It's really not that everyone is an accomplished electrician, mechanic, or brain surgeon.

It's just that when you drive around in a 40 year old car, you sometimes have unplanned opportunities to develop these kind of skills, frequently on an ad hoc, self-taught basis, right there on the roadside.

And sometimes in the dark as well. So your suggestions to take a flashlight & flares are good ones.

Don't you think that taking prayer beads and a sleeping bag might be harmful to the passenger's confidence and morale, though?

Talking about prayers and stuff:

You don't see any Saint Christopher statues, amulets, keyrings anymore in cars nowadays.
(for the atheists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Christopher)

Why has he left the car? Wasn't he the big help, you were hoping for, during on-the-road-reparations? Was he getting a bit too familiar with the female passangers? He simply was a bloody-damn wise-ass giving the wrong directions and Tomtom with gentle female voice toke over?

Or everybody stopt believing in those things and toke a repair manual onboard in stead of a sharp metal statue glued on the dashboard of our so beloved Fulvia.

So far for superstitiousness?

Or everybody has a recovery-insurrance-assistance by breakdowns/accidents?
Or a degree in Fulvia-mechanics?

Shaun Pond,
a dubble- sleeping-bag can be handy on occasions...but not in a Fulvia. It is better to get out of the car on such occasions. Bobby somebody sang (in the 70's) "On a Blanket on the Ground"; I recommend a sleeping bag. Less misquito bites.
I owned a Beta Monte Carlo Scorpion then & can report....when in a dire situation, with no other alternative - "anything is possible"; even if the sleeping bag has been forgotten or it is raining outside

Bart Verrbeek,
If Christopher had been in my Beta Monte Carlo with me & ?? - 20 years ago - it would have been much too crowded & besides I didn't need anyone criticizing my "performance" (or lack thereof); whether we were in the car (practicing being human-pretzels) or in the sleeping bag complaining about the rocky ground, we needed no company.

My wife, who has extensive experience in such matters, maintains that a warm passenger complains less in times of duress. I should keep this in mind when I pack...

Well, Claire has claired my world too.

Remember I suggested to put women in the boot as dead weight when torquing suspension bolts?

Claire had Lucas and myself sitting in the boot when she torqued the bolts last saturday! She gave permission to smoke a cigar in the meantime. Good girl. You don't hear me complaining.

I will research my 2007 Viva Lancia message about giving Fulvias female names & repost it.
It is, no boubt / I am sure, a message about some other Fulvia and/or non-Fulvia topics as well.
Yes, I decided while writing that message, to name that particular Lancia "Claire"; for obvious reasons (to some) who were at the right place (s) at the right time (s)...which John & Claire were (often) not.
In any case, it was time to call it something else besides just "the red one" or the "little one".
In a house with 4 Lancia there is a need to i.d. each one or someone will drive the wrong one to the right place or the right one to the wronmg place someday & that is the last thing we need. It is confusing enough as it is. The Gold Gamma is the "Gold-Bug" - in honor of edgar allen poe ? The Silver Gamma is the "Silver-Streak" in honor of ( I think) a train.
The Gamma names are a) not very inventive
b) are very accurate...at least as far as the color is concerned
c) are not female
d) not very accurate......
since other in this family call the Gold-Bug names like "that old loud thing" or "the uncomfortable one" or "why did you buy another Gamma & not - at least - a (ouch) nice car, with working windows, A/C, modern stereo etc etc etc".
